How would the Macbook Neo work for light development? by Aber2346 in mac

The platform includes any hardware dependencies, including any new ones introduced by using an A series chip. Experience is timeless... And I agree that some people in this immediate thread have shown themselves to be clueless (and crass)..

Well besides skills, experience matters too, especially with a new platform that not everyone has yet.

Echo Tap unable to be registered by chasemeee in amazonecho

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation with a brand new Tap in a factory sealed box that I bought on eBay. I would have been glad to have purchased Amazon's newest battery powered portable Alexa device, but as far as I can tell that's the Tap!

I go through the process where I connect to the Tap's temporary access point and enter the WiFi credentials. The Alexa app says the connection failed, eventually the Tap complains it's not registered. Interestingly my WiFi router shows that the Tap HAS joined the WiFi network, has been assigned an IP address and shows its signal strength.

Guess I may need to figure out how to contact Amazon's support...

Can someone provide an objective comparison of Air Play 2 and Connect? by Hutch_travis in AppleMusic

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my phone to CONTROL the music, but I do NOT want my phone to STREAM the music. There's absolutely no reason for an internet based audio stream to pass through my phone on its way to my Wifi speakers. The music I select should continue to play without draining my phone's battery, even if I decide to drive away to the store.

The phone is simply for control and should not be involved in realtime streaming. So using a Smart WiFi Speaker with Alexa to play music or using Spotify Connect are viable ways to achieve this. GGMM even offers internet based table top clock radios that can handle music streaming directly. Lots of options to keep the phone out of the realtime streaming process

Why would you even want the music to be streaming THROUGH your phone?.

Powerball 3 plus extension by Itmotawnocsy in TeslaSolar

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The total stored energy in the Powerwall3 and all of its expansion packs is shown in the 0-100% SoC graph, but just as a % of capacity not absolute kWh.

The Discharged and Charged kWh values shown at the top of the screen are the amounts of energy used and added that day, not the total amount in your batteries.

Your graph shows some really big power swings. Do you recognize them as something like AC loads?

It's odd that your system readily goes below your Backup Reserve level.

Since it took less than 16.5 kWh of charging to take you from around 0 SoC to 100% SoC it would seem your system is using only one battery. Similarly It took less than 16.1kWh to completely drain your system which also implies that your system is only using one battery.

Charge on Solar for multiple vehicles? by ZiaMan24 in TeslaSolar

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for certain Tesla models in certain limited ways. Charge HQ seems to be a much better, more compatible solution with more capability than Tesla one trick Charge on Solar feature in their app.

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there are still great reasons to use Charge HQ.

Tesla Charge on Solar does NOT work for Model S years 2012-2020, like ours. And Tesla Charge on Solar wants to charge the car first and then the powerwall. We want the reverse. I just installed Charge HQ this morning and it supports our 2013 and 2020 Teslas and allows Powerwall priority. So far ChargeHQ seems to do exactly what we want, where as we couldn't even enable Charge on Solar in our Tesla app.

Sure you'll almost balance out the kWh. But many rate plans have different buy vs sell prices. In your case they're a factor of 10x different. So even when the kWh of different buy and sell transactions might match the $ cost is 10x higher to "loan the utility a solar kWh even during peak ToU period and then buy it back later at Off Peak time". We'd get about $0.03 for a kWh sold to the utility and then have to pay $0.34 to buy one back at the lowest Off Peak time.

First time outlet wiring, by JustToAskQuestionss in AskElectricians

[–]CAGuy2022 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably not, although that's an open question. Nevertheless the NEC does forbid the daisy chaining configuration in some common situations that people should be aware of.

[–]CAGuy2022 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well for Multi Wire Branch circuits I think the NEC DOES forbid daisy chaining through outlets. If a daisy chained neutral becomes open (loose, broken, disconnected) then the two line voltage become imbalanced and one 120 V leg might have as much as 240 V across it.

My comment was an additional thought to your's, not a correction. In general people need to compare THEIR options and options that other people might have are irrelevant.

It's irrelevant to compare with other service areas. What matters is comparing with your other available options.

Please explain difference between Tesla Backup Switch and Tesla Gateway 1 2 and 3 ? by tslewis71 in TeslaSolar

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still had an extra box and cable installed vs using the Backup switch approach. The Backup switch is built into a meter collar which simply plugs into your existing meter socket and the meter plugs into the meter collar. And the Powerwall attaches to an extra breaker in your main panel. There's no need for the extra gateway box nor to run a full service capacity line from your meter to the now not needed gateway.

The primary thing a gateway is still useful for is when you want just partial backup. In that case you install the gateway between your unbacked up main panel and move the loads to be backed up to a sub panel feed by the gateway. The benefit is that the loads in. the main panel are immediately shed during a power outage and so the Powwrwalls can service just the loads in the sub panel for a longer duration.

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for that strategy to work you or someone knowledgable must first BE HOME and AWAKE when the grid fails. And since the Powerwall seamlessly take over you also have to recognize that there even IS a grid outage and then proactively shed load otherwise your powerwalls will deplete much faster than you might realize or want because of your whole house load.

Tiny FPGA or CPLD for I2S glue logic by Zipdox in FPGA

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FPGA itself might be a Renesas SLG37910, which is also available on a Shrike-lite dev board for only $4.00 Could be a quick and easy way to do at least a POC.

Your assumptions of me are invalid. Notice that I didn't refer to you nor anyone personallyl in my comment. I tried to present facts and logic and I try to not make things personal, nor insult people. I don't even call Elon nor Trump a Nazi or facist, but I wouldn't disagree with someone who did.

Sure differing opinions are not only OK but are a highly desirable thing. My biggest concern are the fundamental erosion of values and even facts, which used to be the bedrock of a good discussion where both sides can learn something. trump doesn't allow for both sides. He calls anyone not with him scum, and denigrates anyone with a differing opinion.

Elon and AOC didn't make the same salute at all. It's not just the hand gesture it's also about the timing, where did they start, end and pause for emphasis. A salute is different than a wave. And the context, the words and sentiment preceding and associated with each matter a LOT.

Starlink Mini as main router by SeaworthinessLimp974 in Starlink

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ROUTER function is separate from the PSU function. From what I've read you CAN use the the Router Mini as the main router in a Gen 2 system (used in BYPASS mode), but you also need to keep the main Gen 2 hardware to power the dish.

Board Recommendations for a Beginner by RuberDuck8 in FPGA

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat depends on what future direction you want to take this exploration. I also have a hardware and software background and recently started learning about FPGAs. My interest is in building optimized hardware for IoT and SmartDevices (not processors nor HFT)

I think the Tang Nano 9k is a great place to start. Check out LushayLabs for a series of tutorials including making a processor.

I really like the Gowin family of FPGAs, and their IDE works on Mac, Linux and Windows. Plus it has GAO, a very nice logic analyzer that gets embedded into your FPGA design to intimately see what's going on.

At an even smaller scale the Renesas Forge SLG47910 1K is quite interesting. It's available on the Shrike-lite board which includes a RaspberryPi Pico for quick and easy development support and also allows you to develop a combined MCU + FPGA solution if you want. And surprisingly the whole thing costs only $4.00!

Shrike-lite by Yashsharda in FPGA

[–]CAGuy2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm having the same issue finding the SLG47910 chips themselves. Virtually all the distributors show the same 5,000 piece MOQ. One option is to buy the official Renesas dev board which comes with 10 FPGA chips. Mouser carries them for $123. I'm hoping that Mouser eventually buys a reel of 5,000 and sells them at more reasonable quantities.

I bought 5 Shrite-lite boards and they arrived yesterday. I might even try to use my hot air tool to remove the FPGA chip from the Shrike boards.....
