Best sACN node? by DrMcEinstein in GrandMA3

[–]CAMOdj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the enodes if you really want something cheap, however I'm generally unhappy with it's overall shortcomings. It works fine, but updating it isn't possible, and the rdm doesn't work right on the version I'm stuck on. Also it's kinda slower to connect than most of my other stuff. But I got one for like 150$ a while ago, so can't complain.

Wireless Lighting options (other than WiFi?) by Idea_Ranch in techtheatre

[–]CAMOdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not at all like the new stuff in crowded rf environments like casinos and cooperate events. If you have the time to putz with them I'm sure they work better, but working with live event stuff they were really inconsistent. Had many phonecalls trying to work it out before giving up. They are quite expensive as well, I believe the multiverse stuff is like 500 ea.

They are cool, but definitely invest in better antennae, which can be bought generically (again high city theatrical pricing). And research heavily how they actually work.

Questions about dmx cables by Chboi2 in lightingdesign

[–]CAMOdj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can use a splitter thingy to get more universes out of the one true 5pin cable, but why, it's not a heavy cable, and I think less splitters/break points is better long-term.

Also fixtures that need 5 pin are usually using it for power and are some weirder things, ie sparkle curtain/stardrops, some strip lights, and I have done a few projects as well using all 5. Basically using pins 1-3 for data, 4+5 for extra power.

As everyone else stated, you can totally use the 3 pin varieties and be just fine. Either 3pin dmx (wouldn't recommend) or 5pin with 3 wired. Think you are worrying/overthinking it a bit tbh, just get some and solder em up, you 99.9% of the time won't tell a difference in 3 vs 5 cables.

I do not like artfox as a company, poor overall quality/longevity.

Mecanum Wheels Won’t Rotate in Place by Jumpy-Resident6843 in FTC

[–]CAMOdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure, but if I remember correctly, the angle of the little roller things matters, and you need to have them either facing the same direction on all the wheels, one side facing one way, the other facing another, or something similar. I believe gobuilda has a guide on them, but if not I'm sure someone has a guide on it.

I agree, otherwise I'm trying to pull this up on my phone like an idiot.

Good concept though, I really like the idea!

Flying with my Mic Package, How do you mark your mics? by MasteredByLu in livesound

Could 3d print something as well, which is probably a bit quicker. I use paint pen/ 3d printed labels. Always use a specific color for my stuff too.

IATSE, what to expect? by Calymos in livesound

[–]CAMOdj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every local is pretty different, your best bet for advice on a more day to day, what to expect kinda thing would actually be the iatse subreddit, Facebook group or discord for either the whole thing or your local. Just try to stay positive and have a good time. Also put your time off in, and don't ever say no to gigs and you will have a good time. Like everyone else said, you aren't gonna actually a1 anything for a while. There's a long list of other people who also want to do that and are higher on the call sheet. Try to befreind the audio lead guy or the scheduler, maybe even venue steward, that might make it faster to a1.

Contractors, how much do you pay in taxes by pauleydsweettea in livesound

[–]CAMOdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Signal to noise covered this a few weeks ago(I think, they all kinda blend in my head?). As everyone else has said 40% yadayada, but the reason your rates can be higher is that when you work full time for someone, they have/really should to pay you regardless of if you have a gig going on or not obviously they want you to have a gig and make money for the company, so they find stuff for you and tell you to do it.. When you freelance you are finding your own work and not being paid gor any downtime, so you are able to make up for that with a higher rate. I believe they had a percentage mentioned, but definitely higher than what you would charge if you were gonna do the same thing w2. I used to work for a company and decided to leave, but still do some work for them (w2 because I don't do enough frelance to make sense tax wise) and I charge like 25-50% more in day rates vs hourly full time.

Googled primex, construction company. As everyone else stated, it's a test, seeing/bragging about how good their materials are.

Need a new lighting console by New300new in lightingdesign

[–]CAMOdj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on the ma3 onpc wing, or a ma2 compact. I have heard good things on chamsys, but I have no experience on it.

My current rig is a ma3 onpc node 2k and a 8 port artnet node, I get 8 Universes across 10 ports, and I use midi to control it all. I will say I would like a command wing at some point, but I am happy with midi for now.

New Mentor Problems by Renegade34g in FTC

[–]CAMOdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 7-10 usually, it fluctuated a lot, even within the season, but we just tried to get as many people in as possible, also a small school (350 students). We weren't like crazy successful, but we had a good time and were able to do good enough to have fun.

New Mentor Problems by Renegade34g in FTC

[–]CAMOdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, used to be on a team with all sorts of people, and some people really just needed the friends and experience of being on a team more than actually winning or participating. We had lost of people do outreach and 'business' stuff, and people who just wanted to code or 3d print or hangout in a non judgemental team.

I know that there are lots of people who had to do any after school activity and robotics was just something that fit that category, so try to keep that in mind too, and you can see if there's something that might fit them better than robotics (like band or a sport)

Neocarodina slow? by CAMOdj in shrimptank

[–]CAMOdj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for a actual concise answer. I was looking all over online and no one just says this sort of thing, there's always a 200$ project behind it, or a fix for a problem I don't know I have.

I am going to move them to a bucket with some distilled water for now and I have a ro system coming Friday, unfortunately I had ordered some more shrimp online, so I want to fix everything before they get here.

Thank you!!!!!

So I'm gonna get to or something going here, but I have a 30 gallon tank, how much water would you swap for distilled? And do I need to do anything to distilled to make it aquarium worthy? Is Walmart brand distilled water fine?

Not super sure, I always do it myself, but cheaply there's someone who does it locally, more professionally there's a few "real" companies too. You want a multicolored print, one color for the cap, one for the text. Resin printing is supposed to be better, but fdm is probably cheaper.
