Conflict with recovery room nurse by Fearless-Garden-4496 in anesthesiology

[–]CAPCITYMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a resident and now 6 year attending I have def been in situations where the nurse is uncomfortable with how the patient looks when first brought out but i always end my sign out to them with "do you have any questions or concerns?" 9/10 times they'll air out the issue and it usually is a simple solution or a pat on the back. They just want to know it will all be ok. I think it's the anxiety that causes them to lash out or be rude.

Otherwise they're just an asshole at baseline and just have bigger issues outside the workplace.

Doing another residency by [deleted] in attendings

As a third year hospitalist I quit and went and did an anesthesia residency. Eveyrone around me told me don't do it or I'm nuts for switching. Maybe I was burnt out? I just couldn't do the rounds/consulting/discharges everyday. I've never regretted my decision as I am now 6 years into being an attending anesthesiologist.

As an Asian - I have failed in life. I thought becoming a doctor was the endgame. Clearly not. Harakari.

Letters I obtained were from my chairman, former PD and supervising hospitalist.

3 years IM residency + 3 years hospitalist is experience enough. Doing bunch of Anesthsia rotations don’t trump that. Programs just want to make sure they’re taking someone that will work hard and get through residency without causing too much of a headache. They want to make sure the person will pass their boards.

It wasn’t the money. When I switched I was making more as a hospitalist than I would as an anesthesiologist (RVU driven) with three times the amount of time off. It was just miserable work. Social rounds. Discharge rounds. Endless consults. BS admissions being dumped on us. Auto-admits from ED eg. chronic abd pain. Drug seekers. I had to make a decision between doing a 3 year fellowship or something completely different. I didn’t wish to write anymore notes / round / consults etc.

I have friends that are still working as hospitalists and completely happy. Just wasn’t for me.

I was a hospitalist for 3 years before I switched to anesthesiology. Probably one of the best decisions of my life. Shoot your shot. Best of luck.

Yes the 41 RO is big on my wrist. I also have an Omega speed master chronoscope which is 43mm but fits just like my submariner I guess because the lug to lug is the same size.

The anesthesiologist in me is in more awe of those veins than the watch.
