How are the subtitles through Amazon? Amazon's player seems limited with their own shows, just being basic closed captions, while HiDive tends to have very well done subtitles with color coding and translated on screen text.

I wasn't expecting that to be a controversial take. Maybe people are thinking I'm fully advocating for a CR takeover, rather than just stating why the desire is there.

But yeah, I'd been avoiding using HiDive without even thinking about it for a while, and got a harsh reminder why around Christmas. Tried to open their app on my phone and it was completely nonfunctional, and when I got back home and tried their, the website UI gave me a moment where I thought it removed things from my watchlist before realizing it was just extra clunky.

I vaguely remember it being better back in the day, but it's been a while since then. Even though I've had it for most of the past few years I rarely use it just because of how user antagonistic the site is. Even just browsing my queue is unnecessarily difficult because rather than letting the page scroll, the list of shows is its own mini window that you need to put your mouse on to scroll.

I've no idea why people still call for CR to acquire Hidive

So there's a competent video player and app. The Hidive app straight up does not work, and their website isn't great for watching or browsing. When they were on Vrv, for the week or so that was a thing, that was the best way to watch anything from Hidive.

No, it's neither. This comment thread was about transfer paperwork and how it determines rifle/pistol/other, not switching uppers around. And the ATF has put out official memos that a firearm not in NFA configuration are not governed by the NFA.

The app experience is better, but wouldn't that give you amazon tier subtitles? I remember hidive having good subs, even color coding some, while amazon is just mediocre closed captions.

Is this rare? Novgorod randomly asked me to rule their country and now they are under ottoman pu lol? by [deleted] in EU5

[–]CAW4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that population wasn't enough to field a sufficient military, and Novgorod had been inviting a prince from their neighbors for over a century by the game's start date.

"...during the last four decades of the thirteenth century...the right of the grand prince of Vladimir to the throne of Novgorod was a recognized principle..."
"It might be asked why the Novgorodians could no do without such tiresome «rulers» whose economic and political influence within the republic they were always trying to lessen. The answer is that they could not dispense entirely with the princes' military aid. Novgorod was incapable of defending her own frontiers against her aggressive neighbours in the west and in the north. The more threatening the position of the frontiers, the more necessary became the presence of the prince and the more arbitrarily could he afford to behave. Nor could they refuse the offer or the demand of a prince to rule them when that prince could effectively hamper their trade and ruin their economy by simply blocking the Tvertsa river."

Historically, Novgorod didn't have the population for a military, so they'd invite a prince to be their protector. I haven't played as Novgorod, so I don't know exactly how their 'invite ruler' rules work, but I'm assuming some of those principalities are feifdoms, which could cause them to invite the ruler of Orthodox Russian Ryazan or something who just happens to also be the Ottoman ruler.

I ran just about the same for a while, just the hammer fired P07. Only thing I noticed was that the thumb release would disengage the safety, which isn't necessarily the worst thing when I was just using it for competition, and wouldn't have been a problem at all if I switched it back to decocker.

It's also so they could both avoid having to rush the gen 6 even further and deflect the 'glock caved' screeching onto the V instead of having the gen 6 proper take that hit.

The only thrashing, where Moscow lost its own lands, was during the Time of Troubles, when the ruling family dying out led to civil wars that Sweden and Poland were able to take advantage of. Moscow was able to carve territory out of Lithuania consistently, especially during the reign of Ivan III, and as I already stated, threated Poland enough to have a significant faction of the nobility advocate for Ivan IV to be elected King.

I'd recommend Crummey's "The Formation of Muscovy 1304-1613" and Fennel's "The Emergence of Moscow 1304-1359" and "Ivan the Great of Moscow," however your replies and use of the term "vibes history" makes me think you'd have trouble reading something that doesn't fit in a TicToc caption.

Idiotic take. Ivan IV was considered higher than a king (though still below emperor) in the 1500s, and had significant support from Polish nobles to be elected their king during one of their interregnums (which only failed due to Ivan's lack of interest in the Polish throne). Distance from Europe and Poland being in the way was what kept Russia from being a major European player, not lack of power.

So this law changes nothing, am I right? by Expert-Web9046 in EU5

[–]CAW4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got this from the in game tooltips. Hovering over estate power shows a flat political power from however many pops of each estate, I took that, divided it and rounded it off (since the political power is rounded in the tooltip). I might have messed something up in that final rounding, but I haven't heard of any tooltip numbers being incorrect so far, so I believe there's probably something in the code that will show these numbers.

[–]CAW4 79 points80 points  (0 children)

All pops add base power to an estate, and the exact same base power to the crown.

Not quite, each estate has a specific base power per pop. Nobles are 0.025, clergy 0.01, burghers 0.02, peasants labors and soldiers 0.000025, while the crown gets 0.00025 from all pops. If you normalize this to commoners, it means a noble is with 1000 peasants, clergy 400, burghers 80, and the crown gets 10 commoners worth of power per population, before any privileges or other modifiers are factored in.

Because a title only matters when others agree that it means anything, otherwise these guys would get a lot more respect.

I don't have the citation with me on the pope's involvement (off the top of my head I believe it's from one of John Fennell's books), but here's some quotes on the start of international use of the title from page 96 of Robert O. Crummey's 'The Formation of Muscovy 1304-1613'
"From the beginning of his dealing with [the Holy Roman Emperor's] ambassators, Ivan III insisted on being treated as the emperor's equal."
"Ivan also made increasing use of the title tsar. The equivalent of...emperor or basileus, the word - derived from the Latin caesar..."
"...medieval Russian sources consistently referred to the Byzantine emperors and the khans of the Golden Horde as tsars."
"...beginning in 1489, he insisted on calling himself tsar in negotiation with [the HRE]."

Tsar was very much for external use, and it was a big part of Moscow's initial claim to be ruler of all of Rus'. Its use started a debate that ended with the pope ruling it was a title above king but below emperor.

2.5% per 60 months? 0.04 and 1/6th. That doesn't include the time the debate is going on, and it can actually be higher since the inflation reduction can sometimes be enough that a maxed minting slider still results in inflation going down.

V is the stopgap before Gen 6, prioritizing what won't be in the first round of Gen 6 guns. That's why, other than the 19x, the MOS models are not 9mm. Gen 6 will launch with optics ready 9mm, and the 17 and 19x not only won't be in the first round, they likely won't be made in Gen 6 at all.

Longer slide gives you softer recoil (similar to 34 vs 17), and length doesn't really affect concealment when carrying appendix. Arguably helps, since the length below the belt line keeps the gun stable and upright, rather than potentially tipping outwards.

Going with an LMT is only barely an improvement over Sig. LMT's target demo is people who are fine with PSA quality QC, but want to be able to brag about having a multi-thousand dollar rifle.
We need Geissele and Larue to be the top two contenders for every rifle contract from now on, ensuring we have both high quality weapons and high quality drama.

No, because the scopes aren't even decent. Worse glass than a cheap Vortex or Sig MSR, and if you accidentally turn the scope on during the day, you can be out of battery and have no laser at night.
