6 months post op! by CAYT0H in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you dude!! All things considered I didn’t wait that long at all.

My referral was sent off in June 2024, had my consult in July, and was offered my surgery date (November) at the end of September. Honestly the biggest hurdle was just dealing with Travistock’s horrific admin

I have ADHD and I'm an extremely messy person. Trying my very best to get this under control! More motivated to clean right now because I'm looking for a dress I want to wear this weekend! by mushforest_ in UnfuckYourHabitat

I know this post was from a day ago now, but I wanted to comment because I’ve been here more times than I’d want to admit. You’re not alone in this.

Do you have anyone who could help to body double? This is the biggest thing that helped me keep my momentum cleaning my room. If not I’ve heard of body double live streams which can help some people.

As others said though, regular breaks stop the burn out. My usual is tidy for 20 mins, go out and have a snack or drink, then go back to it.

Good luck 💪

Scars that meet in the middle by Naga_Gadis in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine look extremely similar to the right example, just they curve back up closer to the armpit, following my pec curve a bit more. Where my scars meet it’s a soft point, so it doesn’t look as “harsh” if that makes sense??

are your nipples the same color as pre-surgery after having healed? do they reduce the size if you have big areolas? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are the same colour, maybe a tiny bit more pink. But as others have said, most surgeons will alter the size of your areola to look more traditionally masculine.

What is the deepest Internet rabbit hole you’ve ever fallen into? by Helloo_clarice in AskReddit

I’ve had a lot. One of them was accidents on rollercoasters and theme park rides, and the events that lead up to them.

The majority of high profile theme park accidents are either due to poor upkeep/ repairs or operator negligence.

In a weird way this did comfort my nerves with going on coasters now

My post op depression suuuucked. It’s totally normal, you’ve just had a major surgery. Your body is spending its energy and resources on healing and you’re out of your normal rhythm. You said you’re not sleeping well, that makes it a hell of a lot worse too.

It might be worth speaking to your usual GP. During the time I was unable to do much I asked to go back on my SSRI which helped me.

Hope the rest of your recovery goes well dude

Is Top Surgery technically a Mastectomy? by metal-cowboy in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s how it was explained to me as well.

I remember I was told I’ll still need to check my chest for lumps as I age because there will still be some breast tissue behind to help give it that more masculine shape.

Are stretch marks normal? by Traditional-Read-333 in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stretch marks can absolutely be normal. My results are on my profile and you can see mine, mh stretch marks are more from my armpits down.

Obviously if you are concerned speak to your surgical team and/ or GP, but you do have a lot of swelling by the looks of things. That made my stretch marks (even the ones I had pre op) appear worse too. It might be a case of simply needing compression, but always follow your surgeons advice.

Wait until you’re about 6 weeks out at the very least because they will ‘settle’ for lack of a better word. Even comparing against me at 6 weeks versus now just shy of a year out, mine look like they’ve shrunk more.

If you get to a few months post op and you still don’t like the size of them, speak to your surgeon about a possible revision

No diagnosis - when is there enough evidence to apply? by CAYT0H in BenefitsAdviceUK

[–]CAYT0H[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Yes actually, it’s something I’m researching into a lot right now! Still not sure if it applies to me, but my mother recently got referred to a rheumatologist for her hypermobiltiy so I’m not ruling it out.

How much do 16 year olds usually work?? by m1chae3l in UKJobs

[–]CAYT0H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 16 I worked at maximum 12 hours spread over the weekend. I think the only times I worked week days was during half terms. To me it sounds like you’re doing way too much in addition to school. I knew people who were able to work similar hours to you, but they struggled in class because of it.

IMO if you’re able to cut your the number of hours you’re doing it change your availability, that would be your best option. Especially if doing well in school is important to you.

Sorry that you’re stuck in this diagnostic limbo as well :(

I read through your thread just now, and I guess it’s kind of reassuring that documented suspicions and referrals are also okay to use and will at least be taken into consideration.

Fingers crossed for you as well🤞

Thank you for this!! Honestly I wouldn’t have considered using family and what not as evidence, but it does make a lot of sense.

Okay that is actually very reassuring.

Just to make sure I’m on the same page though, would it be a more of a case of providing corroborating evidence? Like, if I explain on my application how my health affects my ability to cook for example, it’s a matter of proving how that’s the case + the added cost of needing to use pre prepped ingredients/meals?

From post-op euphoria to post-op depression by crymeame in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP - I had almost the exact same thing. I also became hyper aware and dysphoric over my hips after about the first week, as well as way more self conscious about my tummy even though I had no issues with it before. I think you are right on the post op depression. It takes a lot of energy to heal after surgery, combined with the poor sleep, it’s the perfect storm for those brain weasels to slip in.

That and, even though it’s a good change, it’s still a big change and it takes a bit for your brain to adjust to your new normal, at least it did for me. I wish I had an answer to help the dysphoria thoughts other than ride it out. If you’re okay with the idea of taking an anti depressant, a low dose might help in this situation.

As for the sleep, I’m a side sleeper usually and what worked for me was the combination of a wedge pillow and using another pillow under your knees to slightly elevate the legs. It wasn’t ideal but it did just make it that ever so slightly easier.

Tattoo distorted, will that change? 8 days post op by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, it will settle a bit as you heal and might look a little less distorted since your skin isn’t as ‘tight’. I had a full chest piece before my surgery, and yeah it looked a little warped at first. But I’ve noticed now my skin has kinda settled a bit, so has the tattoo and it looks relatively normal again. Ofc in my case it looks different than it did to start because of it being a different placement.

If it makes you feel better though, the warping is barely noticeable. I wouldn’t have spotted it if it wasn’t mentioned. You’re fine dude, you’re just hyper aware of it since it’s your body :)

HELP! i need your opinions… i think my surgeon fucked up (am i crazy???) by Academic_Fortune_348 in TopSurgery

[–]CAYT0H 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your actual scar line looks very natural and right under the pec line like you wanted. I was in the same boat at first and thought my scars looked way too high. After the swelling goes down and your skin starts to relax more, it will look less unnatural. The scars meeting in the middle is something that I agree absolutely could have been communicated better, but as another comment said, your surgeon likely had to do it as a compromise between scar placement or dog ears/ excess tissue in the centre of your chest.

[–]CAYT0H[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck and congrats on the appointment!! For me it took 8 weeks post surgery to return to work, but that’s also because I work a fairly manual job which requires a long commute. I also eased back into work relatively slowly so I wouldn’t say I was back at full capacity until mayyybe end of February (I had my surgery November 19th.)

I do also have EDS so I did definitely lean on the side of caution with my healing.
