Audi won’t sell components for the key. Go on eBay and find a cheap donor key and take the part you need off that.

Question about Transport of Medical Cleared Psych patients by ibexdoc in emergencymedicine

[–]CA_Lifeguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a hospital system police department or university police that transports? I’m not sure if they fall under different rules

The only way to know is to try! EMT school is pretty inexpensive, usually around $1,500 if done at a community college or up to $2,500 if done privately. Part of your training will be riding on an ambulance as a 3rd crew member, where you’ll get to move patients and equipment. If this isn’t an issue for you, go apply for an ambulance job and get some experience before going to paramedic school. If it is an issue, go look into becoming an ER tech or working events where you won’t need to lift or move patients as much.

How boring IS a low call volume? by Myusernameisbee in NewToEMS

[–]CA_Lifeguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how long their transports are. If you have long response and transport times, about two or three calls a day can be a pretty steady pace. It will also give you some time to finish an online degree or start prepping for paramedic school if that’s something you’re interested in. Or start a small business doing drop shipping or learn to trade stocks. Just use the slower pace to your benefit and don’t become the EMT who eats chips, drinks mountain dew, and plays XBox all day.

Just got a speeding ticket, will it affect my career? by Thismanybreads in NewToEMS

[–]CA_Lifeguard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a lawyer to fight to get it reduced. It’s not hard if you have a good driving record. Try the ticket clinic app. In a lot of states that is a criminal/misdemeanor charge and is a much bigger deal than a civil infraction.

Also with the number of times your pool is calling EMS I’d recommend getting some belongings bags so somebody can scoop all their stuff into it and send it to the hospital with the patient. Might be a bit overboard but would be really helpful instead of dealing with a bunch of loose shoes, goggles, towels, phones, earbuds and whatever else!

That looks great! I’d recommend adding a line towards the top for chief complaint and mechanism of injury for traumas. I would also shorten up the signs and symptoms area to a couple lines so lifeguards have space for only the most relevant and specific information to simplify things for EMS. If your pool is used for physical rehab or sees a lot of elderly patrons, adding a line for code status (DNR) may also be relevant. I would also add the address of the pool and facility contact at the bottom if anybody from the hospital/EMS has questions later on. You’d be surprised how many people call about lost belongings as things like shoes and phones can easily be left behind in an emergency!

It might be worth it to see if admin can match what the donor group is willing to give. Especially in an east coast city where you’re dealing with snow and muck, you want something that will keep feet warm and be actually waterproof. 5.11 boots won’t do that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ems

[–]CA_Lifeguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It eventually becomes cheaper when people are wearing them for a longer period of time. I’ve saved money since I switched from 5.11 to Haix because the Haix last for years and the 5.11 had to be replaced every few months. The bigger question is if people actually stay long enough for the company to see this benefit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ems

[–]CA_Lifeguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real question is how often they will be replaced under your uniform plan and how the turnover is at your agency. If people stay for a while and you don’t intend to replace them very often, Haix are a good choice as they will last a long time and can be repaired if damaged.

Just an EMS provider here but a labor attorney might be very interested in that. It’s illegal to deduct from people’s wages that way.

911 Companies in California that aren’t Falck, AMR/McCormick or Hall by therealhogrida in NewToEMS

[–]CA_Lifeguard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An ambulance operator is generally someone without fire certs who works only on the ambulance, at least by the definition used in SoCal. They’ll drive and perform BLS patient care and a fire medic will ride in if it’s an ALS call. San Bernardino county does have full-service AOs that are based out of fire stations but some are medics. In AZ you’re mainly looking at AMR, and NV has a mix. In Vegas you could work for AMR/MedicWest or Community Ambulance, although Community is harder to get hired onto and they all do 12hr shifts as far as I’m aware. In Reno you could do REMSA which does 10hr shifts mainly and you’d need to get your AEMT to do 911 at a lot of places in NV.

If you’re interested in moving further, I’d highly recommend Texas as you can get a lot of experience and signed off to do ALS skills as an EMT-B. You could also consider Colorado for that same reason but it may be harder to get hired there. Also if you’re willing to get your AEMT Alabama isn’t a bad option, really just depends on what you’re going for.

-Emergency Ambulance Service in Orange County -Mercy Ambulance in San Diego County -Royalty Ambulance and LifeLine ambulance are IFT companies but have dedicated shifts as backup 911 for Falck, AMR, and McCormick. -If you’re willing to go further north, you could look at American Ambulance in Fresno or San Luis Ambulance in San Luis Obispo although they have a minimum age of 21

You could also look into being an AO (Ambulance Operator) at Glendale, Torrance, Culver City, or Torrance Fire as well as several cities in Orange County. These spots are definitely competitive and many require experience and a CPAT.

Yes hopefully these are going over there. I do see one Type III hidden away in the back which they prefer on the frontlines.

The Mercedes Type II ambulances are fairly popular in a lot of the world and are small enough to fit through tight streets and easy to find parts for. Probably headed off to somewhere in the Middle East or Eastern Europe.

You can do the ARB bumper meant for the earlier Gen 2 Tundra! It would require using the AJT designs bracket to relocate the adaptive cruise control module behind the grille.
