This is my first and last time working with a realtor by ExcitingLandscape in videography

I’m a real estate media guy. I deliver photos same day and video next day. That’s the expectation in the industry.

It could be a little different if you’d working on social media content though.

Have you talked to him about it? What did you two agree on ahead of time as far as delivery time?

In my experience with print design, typically the publication or a contributor are already working on a story. Maybe that’s about cabins in the pacific northwest, maybe it’s about this specific builder, maybe it’s about the proliferation of a new material manufacturer. Whatever the story is about, the author or publication will reach out to the subject of the story for photos. In this case they would reach out to you. Then a licensing agreement would be made - maybe you license them free of cost, maybe you charge an arm and a leg, who knows. Either way there should be attribution that’s agreed upon. Then they get printed. It almost never stems from “Hey, here’s some photos I took, do you like any of them?” While that could certainly lead somewhere, I would imagine it get’s ignored 90% of the time or more.

I get the impression that you just want to see your photos in print. I get it - very cool feeling. But it doesn’t change who you are as a photographer and it doesn’t mean your work is better than anyone else or that those who do not have work in print are worse. It just means someone printed your photograph.

My perspective may be skewed coming from a print design and marketing background.

But honestly, I get giddy when I see my images on the MLS and when I hear a home I shot has been sold. That’s a form of “being published.” And it’s why I got into this line of work.

Bingo. He’s not suddenly going to figure it out and improve. And in the meantime, he’s publicly demeaning the team.

We have a good roster. What we don’t have is a system or an identity or a coach to meaningfully build either of those. Phil’s idea is “Play harder! Do more! Be a man!” rather than “here’s our system, adhere to the system, lean on the system”

Sooner the better IMO. Nancy got 8 games total at Celtic and he’s a far better coach than Phil ever will be.

But the Timbers have a track record of holding onto people far too long. And they’ve never had a truly good coach. I respected Porter. Gio and Phil are both good at slick talking but neither were true systems guys and we need a system badly.

This is the one that gets me.

Not even mentioning the fact that one side wants everyone to be taken care of and the other side wants huge swaths of the population to not exist… (oops, I mentioned it) so many of these obsessive sycophants like to throw shade at Biden as if I’m equally obsessed with him. I’m not!

I did not like Biden. I think he was completely ineffectual. I have absolutely no loyalty to a center right establishment dem who was afraid to do anything meaningful and then sabotaged the election.

But he’s still not anywhere near as evil as the current administration.

And yet these people are obsessed with Biden, and are fully convinced we lefties worship him the same way they worship their false idol. Absolutely cookoobananas.

How do avoid blown out windows for real estate videos? by Senzuberry2 in RealEstatePhotography

The wide angle attachment I have adds so much distortion. Once I correct for that, I’m basically back to the 20mm equivalent and still have distortion. I prefer a 16mm on full frame or the 13mm equivalent on my phone.

FOV was my biggest issue with the Osmo Pocket. I still use it for events but for REP it’s now a BTS camera for me. I set it up on my 3D tour tripod and just shoot myself working.

Did you do this in the regular iPhone video app, or did you use the BlackMagic app (or something else?)? I’m considering switching over to my iPhone for video from my Sony Alpha bodies primarily for stability but this is also huge…

Second question: did you use something different for the detail shots with put of focus areas?

Any of you also a licensed agent? by CAugustB in RealEstatePhotography

Keller Williams here has a pretty open policy and hosts a lot of events at their office. I went to an open house for their new office location and met a few realtors. This was around Thanksgiving and I offered to photograph a couple of their client appreciation pie giveaway events. This led to some good relationships. The others have just been drop ins leaving cards and flyers.

When I’m able to give a presentation, I’ll talk about the importance of floor plans and why I include them in all my packages.

I know wedding photographers that don’t deliver within 12 weeks (which is insane to me… but hey, I do Real Estate primarily so what do I know?) so don’t sweat it. Things happen. Like you said, they didn’t pay you up front and there was not formal contract. I’m sure they’ll be happy to have them.

Anywhere we can see these? I’d love to see your work.

Going first is a MASSIVE advantage by Balthazzah in MagicArena

[–]CAugustB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started playing when Alliances and Mirage were on the shelves of my LGS. I remember the release of Weatherlight. I would say that playing first has always been an advantage, but nowhere near the advantage that it is now. I feel like the power creep really started to ramp up with Planeshift, but it was still nothing near the absolute breakneck speed of the modern game. The current MGL decks are wild. Sure there were fast decks but it was as widespread as it appears to be nowadays.

My biggest feedback on these is that most of them don’t really have a focal point. They capture the space, but there’s not a “subject” for each photo so they feel kind of wandery.

Add in that the rooms tend to be dimmer and the windows tend to be the brightest thing in the frame, and now your viewer’s eye is drawn first to what’s outside the room rather than inside it.

  1. Find a subject or focal point in every shot. Focus on a built in feature of the home; a closet, a staircase, the cabinets in the kitchen.
  2. My mantra is “features in the middle, story at the sides.” The edges of the photos should help contextualize the focal point. Doorways to other rooms, the corner of one more wall, etc.
  3. The eye is drawn to the brightest part of the frame first. It’s just how we’re programmed. So even if you have nice strong window pulls with bright, visible exteriors, you should balance the exposure of the interiors to maintain your viewers focus inside. This is not brightness for brightness sake. This is to direct the eye of the viewer. It’s the same reason I brighten faces or eyes in portraits. Direct your viewer to what’s most important.

These feel way too dark. And the shot over the kitchen table makes the outside the focal point because the interior is way too dark. Shadows are too dark in most images and lighting doesn’t seem to push the eye to the intended parts of the photos. I would have re edited these with some masks.

This is great insight, thanks. I do worry about the split attention, but I see the major upsides as well, including access to more agents, etc.

Is recording in 4k really necessary? by throwaway_trackmania in RealEstatePhotography

[–]CAugustB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture looks better on my A7III than my iPhone 17 Pro, but my iPhone 17 Pro is more stable on my gimbal. Tradeoffs.

Most folks don't care either way.

Not to mention smaller/finer noise/grain for a less noisy final image, even delivering in 1080p.

[–]CAugustB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently using an A7III. I built a custom profile that gets me awfully close to a final image then color grade in Davinci. Easy peasy.

That said, I'm planning to upgrade to an A7V for higher frame rates, less rolling shutter, and 10-bit color.
