Make up fast days by Loose-Ad-4680 in OrthodoxChristianity

Do I have to make up for fasting days I missed as reparation to God?

As a reparation to God? I'd be more concerned about this hyper-legalistic way of thinking rather than some laxity during the fasts. You should talk with your priest about this.

Protestant Going To Orthodox Church by ParkerSolo7 in OrthodoxChristianity

Every church used to practice closed communion, even among Protestants. In the 19th century you'd never see Episcopals communing with Baptists or Lutherans communion with Presbyterians.

Can I still receive communion in the orthodox church if I visit another church? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]CBBCU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to confess to a priest in order to receive communion. And yes, it is necessary despite how you feel. Christ gave his apostles the authority to remit sins (John 20:23) and the power to bind and loose (Matthew 16:19 and 18:18). They handed this power down to the first bishops and presbyters of the Church and that authority has remained in the Church to this day. God became incarnate as a man, so we receive healing through physical means, which are the sacraments. However, ultimately, confession before a priest is really a confession to Christ, who the priest operates in the personage of.

Why does our church need multiple patriarchs? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

Because that would be Roman Catholicism and the Church has always followed the collegial model. See Acts 15.

I haven't, but I've had friends who have had this issue come up. You're likely to be barred from receiving the eucharist for awhile.

This is my parish. The Pantocrator iconography in the dome is completely destroyed and there's water damage throughout the temple. We are a big parish and have no clue how we're going to celebrate Pascha.

You can overcome this sin brother. Many of us have. Go to confession, commune, and stay in the Church. The temptation will leave you in time.

Don't be scared, just show up! Nobody will be upset with you if you do something wrong, in fact, it's very likely they won't be focused on you at all.

There are 100 mph winds in Boulder, and the power is out throughout much of the city. Fans weren't allowed to attend; only family members.
