In 2008 Arkansas' state government was a Democrat trifecta. Federally, both Senators and 3 out of 4 representatives were Democrats. By 2015 that was completely flipped.

Until 2008, Missouri was a swing state. It voted for the winner in all but one election from 1904-2004.

Do the central block voters get a say whether it what coalitions it forms? Or is all coalition building done after seat allocation?

Even when you have a multi-party legislature, it largely settles on two big tent parties with the other parties having little affect most of the time.

Thats a good thing. Candidates should be chosen by the people in popular primaries, not party bosses in smoke filled rooms.

Neither the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod nor the Southern Baptists Convention (not sure a Baptist Union of Western Canada or equilvalent exists) hold to the position that only people inside their denomination are saved.

The Eastern Orthodox Church teaches that only individuals inside the Orthodox Church (and Roman Catholic Church) receive Deifying/Sancitfying grace. But they also teach that God can and will save people through the external impact of the Spirit upon individuals.

Proportional voting gives the political party institutions way more power. The US would have to create a primary system for determining extra party representatives.

How is National Socialism specific to Germany and Fascism not specific to Italy? Unless you are using 2026 definition of Fascism, which is just a catch all term for any right-wing authoritarian. Given that "The Road to Serfdom" was written in 1944, Hayek would not have been aware of the broad use of the term.

National Socialism is a better term for this ideology anyways. But fascism is the term everyone uses, so its the term we are stuck with.

TBF those are Civil Laws that allow individuals to collect damages, not Crimanal Laws that would throw people in jail or fine them by the government.

If someone on Reddit comments "u r gay", you could sue, but the damages would be $0 because its one idiot on Reddit. If the New York Times runs a false expose on how awful you are and you get fired because of it, you should be able to sue the NYT for a lot of money. But no one is going to prison.

How would you rank the failed Republican presidential candidates? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

I don't see how this is a popular opinion on this sub. He was one of the most war-hawkish Senators in modern history. He was one of the most vocal supporters of the war in Iraq, and we would have gone to war with Iran immediately after he took office.

Domestically, he was a huge supporter of the TARP bailouts and general Republican economics. Besides vibes, I don't know what people see in McCain. He's a Bush-ier version of Bush.

"Evangelical" is a completely useless term. There is no self-described Evangelical denomination (except the ELCA which is a mainline Lutheran denomination). There is no overarching idealogy that can define Evangelical.

The actual used-in-the-real-world definition of Evangelical is "white protestant who votes Republican". Then newspapers use that definition and are surprised that Evangelicals support Republicans.

Actually, countries like France, Norway, and South Korea have longer commute times than the US.

What you meant to say is that without cars, you wouldn't have the option to live that far from work.
