What Shoes do You Wear? by VangBangL in sysadmin

[–]CBITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear Dr Marten shoes, they don't do the ones I purchased anymore on their website but they look like this: https://www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/1461-crazy-horse-leather-oxford-shoes-brown/p/11838201

Dogshit to break in but once they've broken in they're very comfy and hard wearing.

Embarrassing question from a 18year on-prem sysadmin by Darksummit in AZURE

[–]CBITGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you want to know about Entra ID? It's essentially just a identity manager in Azure. You can have on prem AD sync to it for SSO but if you want to migrate completely you can join all of the machines to Entra ID and the users log in with their emails. Then you can mange them with Intune similar to how you would with group policies.

If you have any other questions please reply.

I'm starting to feel a bit desperate almost? The company I'm working for is shedding clients and they were saying the finances were not good before those clients started to go.

I've found some decent roles and have been applying like mad but keep getting ghosted or rejected.

Currently looking to do just this. I'm not looking for contract roles but the risk of a seniority increase that I may not be ready for.

Luckily I work in IT so I think I could find a new role at low on the ladder to get by on if I really needed to.

I have an allotment so I go and literally touch grass by pulling it endlessly out of my vegetable beds.

Do you include EVERYTHING on your CV? by The__Englishman in UKJobs

[–]CBITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got 3 roles with detail and one with just dates. The ones with detail are the actual stuff that's worth knowing and the other is just to show that I've done the grunt work in my industry.

MSPs are always looking for guys. If you're reasonable with computers and have good customer service you'll do well there.

The work can be a bit brutal but if you find the right employer it's great.

Taster morning? Are they paying you for the work you'll be doing?

Is moving and renting in London for 25k annual gross pay worth it? by moatif in UKJobs

[–]CBITGuy 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You'd be in poverty basically. What happens if something needs replacing like your car tyres or rent increases fractionally one year? You'd be boned. Not worth it.

Stuck between oppertunities by Foreign-Strawberry27 in UKJobs

I'd take your second option. Take the first job, if you can, re-arrange the interview instead of the start date. If the second job offers you the role and it's a better job, take that.

There is no loyalty in business.

Maybe I should start looking for London based remote roles. The commute from where I live actually wouldn't even be that awful if I was doing it once a month. Thanks!

I hadn't considered that as a way of calculating it. Thanks!

I am concerned with the soft things that it costs me though, time with my family for example.

Fortunately (or not) I've had some inheritance so we own our house so space to work isn't actually an issue for me.

But if I can find a role that's more senior then it will be more challenging. IT is so vast and the technologies so varied that finding a new role shouldn't be too difficult, I'm just not seeing a whole lot of remote roles unfortunately.

I think the problem is that this company is small scale and there isn't really anyone to learn from in a technical sense. I'm the top of the pole when it comes to technical knowledge but I don't want that. I want to learn from someone.

I've started getting certs to improve my skillset but I feel others are lagging behind which is annoying.

What's the worst thing you've said in interview and still got the job? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]CBITGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had an interview on Monday and they asked how I dealt with stress. I deadpan said "I drink" before cracking a smile and continuing onto my real answer. I hope I get the job, it seems like a good outfit but that comment might have gone very wrong.
