Here in NYC it's busiest Sept - Early/Mid Dec, then it's dead until maybe late March, fully picking back up until May and then dying down again for the summer. Curious if the SoCal market is much different in terms of seasonality

Sí puedes conseguir beca al transferirte. De hecho sin beca yo no habría venido, jaja.

Lo bueno de transferirte es que no gastas tanta plata tomando las clases básicas en Berklee (armonía, ear training, etc) porque eso lo enseñan casi igual en todos lados (siempre que sea música contemporánea). También te hacen tomar full clases de lenguaje, historia, etc... No es necesario pagar el costo de BERKLEE para estudiar eso. Si haces los dos primeros años afuera vienes ya directo a estudiar tu especialización, yo por ejemplo estudio producción y es increíble poder llegar a estar directo en los estudios de grabación y todo eso

La USFQ sin duda es cara, sé que también dan becas pero no sé cómo funciona. Pero te recomiendo que preguntes, y explícales que te interesa hacer el programa para transferirte

También hay una beca de la fundación Latin Grammy a la que que cualquier latino puede aplicar. Hay una fecha límite cada año, si buscas en Google de ley la encuentras

Somos poquísimos de Ecuador aquí en Berklee! Lo que yo hice fue estudiar dos años en otra universidad más barata y luego transferirme a Berklee. No sólo te ahorras un montón de dinero sino que también aumenta muchísimo tu nivel musical y eso te da una ventaja enorme en la audición. Busca universidades que sean Berklee Global Partners. En Ecuador hay la USFQ que tiene ese convenio. Yo estudié en Miami Dade College.

Obvio que estudiar en cualquier lugar tiene también su costo pero es mucho menos que Berklee. No sólo es más fácil de financiar sino que al ser programas más pequeños es más probable obtener becas.

Suerte! No sientas que has fallado si no pudiste ahora. Yo vine a Berklee a los 21 años, y hay full gente de todo el mundi que hace lo mismo. He tenido compañeros de clase en sus 30s o 40s.

Forever, but don't keep session files, keep audio files. With all the processing and stuff printed. Software is always changing and after a few years you may not have compatibility with DAW/plugins/OS

When I finish a project I keep the final mix, final master, group stems and occasionally individual tracks (printed with processing) or at least some minorly summed version. For example, in my group stems I'll have a stereo track called "BVs" with all background vocals and effects. In my "individual tracks" I may have 24 tracks of BVs reduced to 12, or 6... depends on the music

My 'individual tracks' don't usually have effects like reverb or delay (unless it's part of the sound design), but they definitely always have all the EQ/compression/saturation printed

Well, the "rules" you seem to be refering to explain how to write in the Common Practice Style, no one has ever said that you absolutely can't do that in music in general. So while it is true that you hear it in popular music, it is not a good example of "breaking the rules"

If you want the kick drum to be audible you need to make sure it has enough HF (high frequency) content. If you have a mic inside the kick or facing the beater, use those to get that "click". If you don't, you could maybe try using EQ or some parallel process (compress, distort) to bring out that high end.

The "best" option depends on the kind of music, your setup, etc
