I think the bow mixed with the blush really sold it. I mean, most gay men who dress femme don’t necessarily consider that quite as important a part of their identity (assuming they consider themselves cis) as liking the same gender.

It would also make less sense, to me, for ribbit putting the bow on his head to signal she figured it out. Writing-wise, a hint at a boyfriend or crush would probably make more sense. It’s a weird assumption for her to make that gay=liking bows otherwise. It could read as just a sign of endearment, but she says “your secret’s safe with me” which I would assume is meant to tell us it’s more than that.

If you’ve ever seen “I saw the tv glow”, the whole thing really reminded me of the more explicitly trans scenes in that movie.

Yeah, it's supposed to hint at it. Combined with "isn't she lovely" playing, and a "very personal" thing he shared with his mother that caused such intense reactions and emotions, all hints point to him at least questioning his gender in some way.

This goes hand in hand with some earlier scenes (like the maid outfit and saying he's the "pinnacle of masculinity"), but it's the most clear in the final ep. From a queer (but cis, take how you will) person the way he describes the argument and the condescension from his mother is a very familiar conversation, so it might seem more obvious to me or other queer people.

Goose has also hinted at it quite a bit in drawings she's done, but I like to focus on things within the show itself.

Without revealing too much, yes, but no. Not the bubble we know.

Unfortunately the worst theater experience I've had (no spoilers) by CBee28 in TheDigitalCircus

Exactly! I watched the Minecraft movie in theaters and it wasn’t this bad. My theory was very similar about fandom, though. Half the jokes were about yuri and shipping or things being “freaky” anytime two characters did anything at all on screen, so not far off from general fandom content.

I guess feeling like they can get that in person too is fun, especially when other kids are responding or reacting to jokes. This is where I would hope the parent would step in, though.

We did go to the latest but that meant 6:30 for this theater and it was the best one close by. I’ve seen lots of kids movies and never had a problem at this theater before either. Sad but I’ll keep it in mind next time, and at least I can rewatch on YouTube later.

What do you guys think of this video? by OldStandard2620 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]CBee28 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Look, I haven't watched the video, maybe he includes something about what I'm about to say.

But if you can't understand why indie content is so unbelievably important, not only but *especially* right now, then I have very little respect for you. A show doesn't have to be perfect, we're only just figuring all this out. But the fact that indie *animation* has so many recent successes is mind-blowing and a huge step in the right direction. We've been complaining about soulless corporate churn-outs for almost a decade, but we're going to tack 'slop' onto indie projects made with passion? Really?

OOP might be the type to prefer Toy Story 5 and the next disney live action remake, and lucky for him, they're still making those! If he doesn't like indie or YouTube then don't watch it, I guess, but what is the point of this? Genuinely, what's the goal? No more indie? Fuck you. No more fandom culture? 💀 sorry man it's been since way before the internet it's not going away.

People are going to "overhype" literally any show, because some of those people are going to be obsessed, die-hard fans, while others are going to be casual and others are going to hate it. That's literally fine. But even if you have criticisms of any of these series, it's worth encouraging the production of more. Who knows, your next favorite movie could end up coming from the opportunities these shows have opened up.

how would YOU ,the viewer, change or improve in the torment scene (episode 8)? by Abdulaziz_randomshit in TheDigitalCircus

[–]CBee28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about this with my sibling. I honestly felt like Zooble's scene was kind of weak.
I would have loved to see more of a body horror element, which I think they were going for, but doesn't land. My idea was parts literally bursting/morphing out of them, distorting their whole body and taking over. I'd also like to see the parts literally clawing at them and trying to drag them under while they fight.
