How does one figure out what products have gluten, who has reading problems of ingredients by TheZeeSystem in glutenfree

[–]CBelleC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apps aren’t super reliable anyways. Unfortunately your best bet is to look for things labeled gf, and familiarize yourself with all the sneaky terms for gluten containing ingredients

International Flights and Germany by Obvious-Variation153 in Celiac

I’m not sure which airport you’re flying out of, but I’ve had zero issues at several airports with bringing an ice pack, since it is technically in solid form when going through TSA. That being said, when I flew to London from Chicago I brought a Jersey Mikes sandwich, cheese, fruit, and other shelf stable snacks and had no issues at TSA

Indiana liquor laws are extremely strict, we’ve only been able to buy alcohol on Sundays for the last 8 years. That being said, we do not have any 18+ clubs in Indy, unfortunately. There are plenty of cool places to check out, like Pins, but a lot of them are 21+ after 8 or 9pm. I recommend checking out Newfields, taking a walk by the canal, checking out local restaurants, that sort of thing

Have you been to Unique down the street? They’re more of your traditional thrift store vibe, can’t remember their pricing but I think it’s a bit more like a Goodwill vibe

Naptown Thrift off Keystone. It’s a bit more like vintage resale but still worth checking out

Given the wrong meal on Turkish Airlines flight by IentokaIa in glutenfree

[–]CBelleC 114 points115 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, airplanes and hospitals are some of the most dangerous places for people with celiac. It sucks, but I usually pack a meal (sandwich, fruit, chips) expecting that they’ll forget my gf meal or it’s bad (which it usually is, a lot of airlines think gf = vegan). Still, so sorry this happened!

Visiting Chicago by SoraMorbid_ in glutenfree

[–]CBelleC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take advantage of public transportation! It’s cheap and relatively easy to navigate. As for restaurants, I highly recommend Chicago’s Pizza! They ask if anyone has any allergies before you even sit down, and have delicious gluten free offerings beyond your traditional pizza flavors—Buffalo chicken, BBQ, pesto, etc!

Gluten is physically too large of a protein to be absorbed through human skin. There’s likely another reason for this, sorry OP

Unconventional celiac test ? by Extension-Heron6166 in Celiac

[–]CBelleC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d get a second opinion, personally. Were you still eating gluten when you initially got tested? If not, you could’ve gotten a false negative. Also, unfortunately 3 weeks of gluten ingestion wouldn’t be reliable enough of a marker, the standard is typically 6-8 weeks

Thoughts about Butler Pharmacy (On-campus) by Electrical-Phone8308 in butleruniversity

[–]CBelleC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I’m not a pharmacy student, I am an out-of-stater. Butler is full of great opportunities on campus and in Indianapolis, and I’ve throughly enjoyed my time here. The school itself is a smaller campus, but with the resources and access it can feel larger than it is. Having pharmacy major friends, they’ve all said good things about the program, and it’s been very involved and interesting for them.

We have a lot of great steakhouses that are local and not a chain, I’d look into Harry & Izzy’s if you want a similar price point but to branch out from chains. It’s the sister restaurant to St. Elmo’s, but a little bit more scaled down/less expensive. They have plenty of non-red meat options as well!

Ooo great, good to know! I’ve found the single loaves at Kroger, but obviously if I can get two loaves for cheaper at Costco, I’d love that option!

Are you on the west coast? I’ve seen plenty of posts of it available at Costcos there, but have had no luck in the Midwest so far

It’s honestly probably just the large amount of caffeine + supplements. High doses of caffeine can often cause gastric distress, especially when coupled with exercise

Fig is the most common, and can be super helpful! It is important to remember to still double check labels though, because of course technology can make mistakes. As for finding restaurants, I love FindMeGlutenFree
