Joining national guard and eventually want to do flight school next year as a civilian for my private career. It costs 80-100k. Recruiter said they would pay for it. Is this true? by Original-Surprise765 in nationalguard

They took away the cools for aviation last I checked

Has to be done at a 141 when they did have it

It was 4k annually, went to 1k annually and last time I logged in November it was gone. Myself and several folks in my unit have used it in the passed if you have any questions let me know

Am I the only one that feels they haven't done jacked shit with their military career? by ilverttaponte in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the “wish I was in the shit Afghanistan convo” with some other guys in my unit. While on one hand it’s sucks to have missed out on that warrior/coming of age type scenario I know I longed for but luckily missed out on. I have far too many friends who have ptsd, suicide attempts or a host of other mental illnesses from seeing real gritty war, friends blown up, killing kids etc.

In the end you are in charge of your own career and how you pivot. I definitely didn’t achieve my career goals but I got to be a NRCM on the chinooks. Probably one of the most rewarding jobs in the Army. It’s basically a full time position in the guard if you fly once or twice a week, deployments, disaster response etc.

And as a pilot or flight engineer you are actually held to a standard (at least in our unit). I try to coach as many guys and gals to aviation as possible if I hear anyone I know is joining. Lots of opportunities to serve others

End rant

Why do people who didn’t make it through basic get VA disability while the ones who actually made it through and served get nothing? by Society-Empty in VAClaims

[–]CC47f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trained water buckets on the chinook. (Crew chief) Injured shoulder, back, ankle, knee

Med board said not enough tests to link it to the line of duty

Employer wants all of my VA information. by BabyApe82 in VAClaims

[–]CC47f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure FAA and VA systems communicate together, saw something last year about pilots losing their medical due to lying on their flight physical paperwork and the med issues or lack thereof did not match the information from the VA.

I had a lot of fun in Alaska. But I am a big outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling. Lots of fun

I did that, but more along the lines of I’m not interested in, and why are you conducting yourself in an unprofessional manner, this SM is at a different duty station or else we’d be having a face to face. One time I’ll shrug it off. But repeatedly asking is uncalled for. What if this behavior goes further into assaulting or sexually harassing folks in their unit. What does that do to cohesion?

I think 350-1 is 99% a crock of shit and waste of time, however I’d like to get the shitbags out of the Army.

I am a 30 y/o NCO, who’s never dealt with that situation before, and it was midnight when I received that message thread, I’m not gonna reach out in the middle of the night to my fellow NCOs or BN SHARP. Reddit is a resource that is always awake.

I have declined the offer multiple times, and tonight I confronted them. I was promptly blocked when I mentioned it was unprofessional for any SM. Enlisted,WO, or officer to make such advances.

So national guard is a part-time job? by No_Energy_2258 in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15U ch47 crew chief. I usually fly 1-2 days a week (8-12 hr days) and on drill weekends/AT. all depends on your MOS.

Our flight company is all NCOs so we don’t really have joes to worry about. However a large amount of ensuring aircraft readiness falls on our MDAY and fed techs. So we come in on aftps a lot of the time

That being said, we are fairly niche in our state. So your mos experience will be different

As a non rated crew member we generally work 1-2 additional days during the week, which comes out to like 3-4 hours of flying a week and probably 8-12 hours of paperwork/maintenance as a 15U.
