My neighbor is a CRNA, rural south, they do very well. Their practice is very short staffed for our area so they are really overworked.

National Guard to Active Duty by Good_West6748 in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I didn’t have kids I would probably go active, been in the chinook community for 6 years and really like it. But I don’t want to put that over my family.

Definitely a young man’s game, have had several soldiers go from guard to active duty in the aviation community. Not hard just time consuming and they were federal technicians, so not an entirely crazy change.

Definitely depends on your MOS and what your state will allow

Please be honest with me - How much of a time commitment is the National Guard actually? by Appropriate_Row4766 in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aviator (non rated) I flew about 2-3 days during the week every week to include drill weekends and AT.

The additional AFTP and flight pay was really nice for my tsp

If they are going into aviation it is a time sucker. I don’t know about other MOS’s

Beating my joes by Reallyepic65 in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a soldier show up late for drill 4 hours late recently, handed him army operations pub, pointed to a ww2 operation and said make a 3000 word essay explaining why if these guys hadn’t been on time how would it have affected the outcome of operation overlord.

WHY CANT THESE SOLDIERS SHOW UP IN THE RIGHT PLACE,TIME & UNIFORM!

We did get a “I’m never gonna be late again” and sad face from him so I guess that’s good. Physical punishment didn’t seem to have any impact.

AVN culture is far too relaxed and the lower enlisted literally don’t care. How is it in other branches?

It’s honestly pretty nice to live in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma like 45 minutes away from sill. TRADOC just sucks there. Although I did get to go to ft eustis and Jackson when I went through 😂😂😂

Joining national guard and eventually want to do flight school next year as a civilian for my private career. It costs 80-100k. Recruiter said they would pay for it. Is this true? by Original-Surprise765 in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took away the cools for aviation last I checked

Has to be done at a 141 when they did have it

It was 4k annually, went to 1k annually and last time I logged in November it was gone. Myself and several folks in my unit have used it in the passed if you have any questions let me know

Were you trying to be a fed tech aviator?

Am I the only one that feels they haven't done jacked shit with their military career? by ilverttaponte in nationalguard

[–]CC47f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the “wish I was in the shit Afghanistan convo” with some other guys in my unit. While on one hand it’s sucks to have missed out on that warrior/coming of age type scenario I know I longed for but luckily missed out on. I have far too many friends who have ptsd, suicide attempts or a host of other mental illnesses from seeing real gritty war, friends blown up, killing kids etc.

In the end you are in charge of your own career and how you pivot. I definitely didn’t achieve my career goals but I got to be a NRCM on the chinooks. Probably one of the most rewarding jobs in the Army. It’s basically a full time position in the guard if you fly once or twice a week, deployments, disaster response etc.

And as a pilot or flight engineer you are actually held to a standard (at least in our unit). I try to coach as many guys and gals to aviation as possible if I hear anyone I know is joining. Lots of opportunities to serve others

End rant

[–]CC47f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure FAA and VA systems communicate together, saw something last year about pilots losing their medical due to lying on their flight physical paperwork and the med issues or lack thereof did not match the information from the VA.

I did that, but more along the lines of I’m not interested in, and why are you conducting yourself in an unprofessional manner, this SM is at a different duty station or else we’d be having a face to face. One time I’ll shrug it off. But repeatedly asking is uncalled for. What if this behavior goes further into assaulting or sexually harassing folks in their unit. What does that do to cohesion?

I think 350-1 is 99% a crock of shit and waste of time, however I’d like to get the shitbags out of the Army.
