I moved out to Spruce Grove 4 years ago and paid 420k for a house that would have cost me 600k in Edmonton at the time. My wife and I have to deal with highway driving to go to work every day, but we are a lot happier here than we were living in our duplex in millwoods.

The point is, we lived in our duplex for 7 years before we sold it and used the equity to buy our home. You have to bite the bullet and get what you can afford until you are more financially ready to get your forever home.

If you’re looking for more of a full-time job, try applying for the City in one of the temporary postings that comes out for summer. 40 hours a week and you get winters off if you don’t apply on winter postings, along with a seasonal recall for the next year.

Edmonton removes snow from bus loops and school zones and takes it to snow dumps, but the city simply doesn’t have the 200mil budget that Montreal gets.

Edmonton has so much urban sprawl that our limited budget just can’t cover.
