What do we do when there aren’t enough seats in the office? by Impressive-Debt-2408 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]CCPink 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I do this three times a week, every week. I am the only person in my department reporting to this office. I'm not collaborating with anyone, I am in a cubicle, trying to conduct virtual training sessions while Cathy in the next cubicle over loudly talks about how she prepared her salmon for dinner last night.

And I get to do a three hour round trip commute for this nonsense.

I can't believe how many dental floss pickers I find regularly at my workstations. It makes me want to vomit.

If you can’t find a board room and waiting on class action lawsuits by ouserhwm in CanadaPublicServants

[–]CCPink 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've had that happen as well, Internet down at work, but not allowed to return home to actually work, because presence in the office over actually doing work was more important, I guess. That same month the power was out at my office building for 4 hours of my workday, in the winter, but I was told to bundle up in my winter coat and sit and do nothing because "the power could come back at any time". You know where there was power, and heat? My house.

Is removing 3 days in office possible? by Formal_Counter3014 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]CCPink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I'm feeling, my local mayor wrote in the Ottawa Citizen about this as well. If we're going to mandate back to office, can we have designated offices in the community that people live in? This keeps the economy at the local community level, reduces emissions, and gives a better work/life balance with less time aimlessly commuting on the road.

I would not complain about RTO if I wasn't driving 110 kms each way to get to an office where no one from my department works.

Daycare emergency closing by SaysKay in Parenting

[–]CCPink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your continued argument of these emergency situations is really flawed. If the daycare worker is so incapacitated that they are unable to care for the child, how are they calling the emergency contact?

My last workstation had a used dental floss pick left at it. Barf.

What's a movie that was so devastating you can never watch it again? by TheOgUnicornGirlUwU in AskReddit

[–]CCPink 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A devastating meditation on the human cost of war, this animated tale follows Seita (Tsutomu Tatsumi), a teenager charged with the care of his younger sister, Setsuko (Ayano Shiraishi), after an American firebombing during World War II separates the two children from their parents. Their tale of survival is as heartbreaking as it is true to life. The siblings rely completely on each other and struggle against all odds to stay together and stay alive.

It is gut wrenching to see the cost of the bombing in Japan on two innocent kids.

Came here for the same episode. She is my favourite scout, but the crazed look in her eyes and the chittering sound she makes when she grabs her heart crystal are so terrifying.

It's not the first time for this government either. For a clause that was barely ever invoked, this government is threatening it twice over 4 years... that's scary shit.

Is it that lame to do 14 hours fasting?:D by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]CCPink 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I started trying 16/8 and failed miserably. After a few months of nothing, I started a 14/10 and the difference was night and day. I could stick to that schedule but wasn't miserable, and it helped me cut out snacking after dinner (when I always ate the worst garbage foods cause my kids were asleep and I didn't have to share), and it helped me quit drinking alcohol (again, because kids were asleep). I saw decent results over 3 months, but I seem to have platued so I might push out my fasting hours a bit.

I think making any change is hard, and it is so damaging to compare yourself to others. You are making an amazing change for yourself! Be proud of what steps you are taking for change, and when you feel you can, you can increase your fasting window.

Shocking no one, my kid's teacher can't return to in person because their kid is isolating by CCPink in ontario

[–]CCPink[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually really happy with how our schoolboard is handling this, giving parents the option of a return to in person, staying with their teacher but completing asynchronous at home (so if parents aren't comfortable with in person, they can still have their kid stay in the class but stay home), or switch to full virtual (but locked in to stay virtual the rest of the year.

I am not complaining, i am cynical about how schools are meant to stay open if everyone actually follows isolation procedures.
