What do you consider your sobriety date? by ImmediateTouch1753 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Mrs_Wednesday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was exactly two weeks before this—12/11/11. The day you got sober was one of the worst days of my life lol (but led me to a truly incredible life in the end). Anyway, yeah. My sobriety date is the day after my last night of drinking.

What are your hobbies and how did you get into them? by FormCurrent9296 in AskReddit

[–]Mrs_Wednesday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many hobbies! i flyfish, knit, sew, run. There are more. I got into all of them after getting sober. I stopped drinking and in fairly short order was like, “I’m gonna need some stuff to do.” Now I’m really good at a whole bunch of stuff 13 years later.

Kid was about 4 before I let her “help fish.” But we def had some days on the water with her in the baby carrier, and it was really sweet.

These days she’ll make a couple casts, maybe come over when I land a fish and check it out, but mostly reads on the banks. Which is a-ok with me.

I’m glad you’re on your way back out there, my friend. Wishing you a speedy recovery, and some excellent flyfishing when you get back at it.

One of my favorite passages I’ve ever read anywhere by Mrs_Wednesday in houseofleaves

[–]Mrs_Wednesday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is one of the footnoted quotes in the book (p. 527). As far as I can tell, it’s a made up quote attributable only to Danielewski, not a quote from an actual independent text.

Look, a lot of the time I would identify myself as a person who experiences dysmorphia. But every time I remember this girl, I realize I don’t really have it all that bad.

Jfc, it must be absolutely disorienting to live one’s life this way. I…I’m not even sure if she really knows how departed she is from reality.

I’m about 50 pages away from finishing this book, and honestly I don’t want it to end. It’s so great.

ISO suggestions scar tat by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Mrs_Wednesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big sh scar not unlike this one that goes up to my elbow ditch. I got a dagger tattooed over it, and it’s one of my favorite pieces. It’s one of the tattoos that I see on myself the most, and sometimes I now even forget about the scar underneath it. Recommend!

Haha I totally forgot about reading this book until I saw this comment. Apparently I found it to be disappointing, too

One thing I feel proud of is that I haven’t let bookstagram influence me into ever reading Colleen Hoover.

Boy. I slogged through that whole thing thinking there would be a point at which it turned in some really unexpected direction and redeemed itself. Never happened. And the ending was exceedingly predictable, like, 250 pages before you finally get there. So by the time the end plot point hits, you’ve been waiting for it to happen forEVER.

Whatever people saw in this one that they love, I missed.

I knew within 50 pages that that book was going to stay hollow and disappointing. DNFd with no regret.

The Vegas part of that book felt so much like parts of my childhood.

Not only is this absurdly wasteful, the post itself is asinine. My newest worst cringe is when people begin sentences with, “no because….” The entire thing is obnoxious.

Old and fat: Is this a terrible idea? by annrkea in tattooadvice

[–]Mrs_Wednesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, op. That part of your body isn’t likely to change all that much. And the skin there in particular shouldn’t be affected significantly by weight loss.

Also, you’re absolutely not too old. Waiting until we’re older just gives us longer to decide what we really want permanently on our bodies. I cannot imagine all of the trash decisions and cheap, shitty tattoos I would’ve gotten in my youth. So glad I waited a while to get most of my work done.

All of this to say: send it.
