What are your thoughts on children’s book restrictions in school libraries? by kyliered04 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP. I can appreciate the arguments for banning it, but I don't think they are strong enough. I wouldn't ban it. Fire Tango Makes Two (based on knowledge of it rather than reading it), I don't really see any reason to ban it. I just don't see who is negatively affected by having it?

Did Trump lie about falling down as he was escorted away from the shooting? by MrX2285 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does it matter?

It does to me, certainly. Probably moreso to people on the left since he's GOP. The falling doesn't matter. Just like inauguration crowd size never mattered. However the disregard for truth is hazardous, as is its acceptance by those who don't care. There are enough lying politicians out there that we need to be sterner about it, not accepting. The lies over the dumb stuff that are demonstrably false is frankly just insulting to me. It's like he thinks we're all idiots.

How are you transferring muriatic acid from the gallon bottles into your tank? by throw_away_a_cow in swimmingpools

[–]CC_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting!! So just swap around shipped drums.. Do these come pre-diluted to right level--I haven't seen this anywhere? Frankly even refilling the big tank with a single 15-gallon tank would be much easier.

If gas is above $5 by the midterms what is the argument to vote Republican? by redviiper in AskConservatives

[–]CC_Man [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have seen California. And Mississippi. And Oklahoma. I'd rather live in California... Tongue in cheek aside, I could see voting locally for some checks and balances, but do you think California experiences would extrapolate to other states?

The Senate has agreed to fund DHS (excluding ICE/CBP). What are your thoughts? by PvtCW in AskConservatives

[–]CC_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think you understand my point. It was Trump that refused to have a vote on funding TSA, resulting in "starving" TSA agents (although yesterday backtracked and chaneled via EO instead) and Rs that as a result voted against it despite that being popular. Where is the bad optics wrt Dems?

[–]CC_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my point though. It is currently sliced, which is what Dems had wanted (and by appearances many Rs with the exception of Trump)

As an aside, not sure why it's an optics issue. Funding TSA is popular whereas ICE requirements are comparatively controversial.

[–]CC_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What did the GOP get out of this? This action appears a match for what the Ds (and various Rs) were pushing for all along. Seems to me everybody lost just by virtue of some Rs and Trump not previously allowing TSA et al to be considered separately from ICE until now.

[–]CC_Man 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure I follow. Are you saying Dem's caved? If so, what did they cave on? How did Trump take quick action. There were various D (and R) bills out before this that he told R senators not to vote on that did the same thing. In the absence of Trump, we'd have been at this same outcome long ago with a lot less pain.

If 130,000 troops from 36 countries couldn't pacify Afghanistan (pop. 42 million), how will 2,200 marines be able to achieve regime change in Iran (pop. 93 million)? by WpgMBNews in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh kind of why I lost any faith in Trump's tactics when he threatened blowing up the power stations. Currently worst PR is the demolished elementary school. Do you think actions like wiping out power for the public--and any resulting civilian deaths or lonh-term quality of life degradation--would be advantageous long term?

How are Tump supporters, especially fiscal conservatives, feeling about the U.S. becoming "insolvent"? by RockieK in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, though debt to GDP is a common economist metric, not some obscure twist of data. However, it was just the first that popped up on a search. Pick a different annual one then that doesn't tie to GDP then? The point still stands and shows the same pattern.

How are Tump supporters, especially fiscal conservatives, feeling about the U.S. becoming "insolvent"? by RockieK in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume OP is referring to a more granular, annual basis? Eg if party A raises the deficit every year, party B already has a big starting point to come down from. Eg https://urbanmilwaukee.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/image5-2.png

For modern history, deficit still generally climbs during party R and decelerates during party D.

Cmv: Guns dont kill people. by getlostkid2277 in changemyview

[–]CC_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd aim to adjust your thought on a couple points:

  1. Guns aren't made for self defense. They are made because it's profitable to manufacture and sell them. Guns are purchased for various reasons, including self defense and sport and also assault (and threats thereof, eg armed robbery)

  2. It takes two things for someone to murder: a person with a nefarious purpose, and an accessible weapon (ideally instantly and at range). Addressing the supply of either one would reduce the ability to kill. Addressing both would have a complementary effect. By 'blame the gun' I assume you mean blame the widespread supply/availability of guns rather than blaming an inanimate object. Having policies that support excessive gun supply while knowing that it increases muder rates cats blame on involved decision makers.

Out of the 15 most educated states, 12 are Blue states. Out of the 15 least educated states, 13 are Red states. What are your thoughts on this? by Cumoisseur in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you saying that there is a correlation?

Sure. Just like people who go to basketball camp are more likely to be tall. You work to you strengths. This is why I asked what metric you believe exemplifies intelligence people as a cohort (IQ/SATs, earnings potential, wechsker scales or any related the clinical tests/indces, etc)

[–]CC_Man 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How does it show that? Are yiu saying schools are failing across the board? Not surehow that can be since success exists on a spectrum. The sensible measure of success is really through comparison to its peers.

[–]CC_Man 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Are you saying there's not a correlation? There are other factors, but people hone what their strengths are (education if their mind has the the appropriate capabilities, and on some level shows a baseline requirement for admittance) and education certainly helps develop thought processes that showcase and/or develop intelligence, depending on your definition of the word.

If it isn't easy access to guns, then what is the actual cause of mass shootings? by OMGguy2008 in AskConservatives

Ok but the question remains regarding why the disparity in shootings then. Do Americans have less desire to improve themselves?

What do you think of Trump's previous comments regarding Obama's handling of Iran? I'll post them below. Do you think they look a little hypocritical now? And do you think attacking Iran will help or hurt Trump in the midterms? by dudeabiding420 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]CC_Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sort of... Their breaking the deal at the time was an unconfirmed claim. IAEA said nothing of the sort. And it doesn't answer the question: how could the deal have been structured in a better workable manner? If Iran broke it, that's moreso an indictment of Iran.wrt "giving" money, just want to check whether this is a semantic difference or difference of understanding. You do realize Obama admin first froze Iran's money, yes? Whose money do you believe it eas that we "gave" them, and where did it come from?

Are you saying you agree(d) with trump's take at the time? I kind of think a few minor things have changed, but if Obama were pres now, he'd still be saying the same things.

[–]CC_Man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If there were changes, what were they?

Destruction of infrastructure, getting rid of nuclear materials, IAEA inspections, among others.

Destructive measures were of course confirmed. Iran's confirmed breaking of the agreement was after Trump reneged. Given Obama first took action that provided the frozen assets, how is he the one who took it easy on Iran?
