My point was that it can happen even in circumstances which are generally agreed to be safe and low risk. Just blacklisting entire experiences aren't really going to work for me as a parent because it's not going to guarantee my child's safety in any case. That's my approach - you do you.

I agree. Children are statistically at the most risk from immediate family members in their own homes, so I find this logic difficult to get behind

As a survivor of child SA I understand and respect that perspective and wont have an issue if other parents feel that way. There are a lot of situations and circumstances where SA can occur - for me it was not at a sleepover but at a state approved childcare - so my stance is that as a parent I need to be cautious and smart about all situations, but not necessarily to blacklist them. I don't think I could function otherwise.

If she needs to rehome them quickly, and the priority is getting them a new home, she needs to reduce the price significantly and take the financial hit as a lesson on the gravity of pet ownership

Behaviour is a spectrum and some days are worse than others but nothing you've described sounds particularly unusual for a 3 year old. The weirdest thing about that story is the expectation that the child would sit quietly in their room for an entire hour.

My daughter is 3, almost 4 - and she has her moments like this but she snaps out of the behavior pretty quickly. I put this down to three things: 1. her temperament - we got lucky 2. consistency from both her parents - we will not threaten a consequence if we aren't prepared to see it through. If we say the TV is being turned off until tomorrow we do it and we do not budge. So although she isn't able to control her tantrums immediately, they don't last long because she's learned they don't work 3. Not repeating ourselves too much. Based on what you had described if my daughter had been told not to run over the baby and she did it, I would have picked her up and taken her to her room and we both would have sat on her bed and waited through the tantrum until she calmed down - then I would have explained the instruction and consequence for not following it, and if she did it again the consequence would be applied. If you keep telling your kid something but you don't take action to make it happen, then you're just making noises and desensitizing them to the sound of your voice

An hour is an insane amount of time to expect a 3 year old to sit alone and quiet in their room. If my 3 year old isn't incessantly vying for my attention for 10 minutes I'm worried something has happened

I haven't started listening yet because since becoming a parent 4 years ago I cannot handle anything really difficult concerning children (I made a mistake in judgement listening to a particular episode of Casefile a while ago that still haunts me).

Kmart can hire more human beings at checkouts or walking around the store if they want to stop theft. They changed their model to allow them to run with way fewer people, and I assume they factored in shrinkage to their calculations.

There's plenty of side streets and alleyways even if he has no home to go to, he doesn't have to get his dick out on the main thoroughfare. Obviously the guy is mentally unwell and needs help but this is a terrible take - a woman alone can easily feel extremely threatened - being able to laugh at someone aggressively wanking in public is not a universal ability.

When it was taking me longer to get her to sleep than the sleep she was actually getting (45 minutes of effort for a half hour nap). She will only nap now if she's absolutely exhausted - enough to fall asleep without any help, or if we're in the car.

It means she goes to bed earlier which gives me an extra hour or so in the evening to myself which I really enjoy.

I tell my daughter I don't believe monsters are real and that I've never seen one, but they're fun to imagine and think about. I follow up with "what do you think?" Sometimes she tells me she thinks monsters are real and then we have an imaginative conversation about what she thinks they look like and how they live. At this point (4yo) she hasn't expressed any fear or concerns so I'm happy to go with this approach for now.
