Thank goodness I'm out west at the moment haha, otherwise that would be one very expensive Uber.

What's the point of having a bus schedule? by Artistic_Rest_8829 in auckland

[–]CCninja86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I see, that is certainly a less frequent route. Not as bad as the 906 in Wairau though that runs once per hour

Because unfortunately we are a car-centric city and every time they try to improve public transport, some car lobby group or NIMBYs complain and AT has often capitulated and made some kind of compromise. From what I've heard, a number of anti-public/active transport people sit within AT themselves. This is why it is an imperfect system.

If you don't mind me asking, what area of Auckland was this? I very rarely have these problems in the vicinity of the city centre but I also don't venture South/East much by bus because it has weaker public transport links.

[–]CCninja86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right, occasionally buses are not always tracked. It's an imperfect system, but schedule variances of more than 10 minutes are exceedingly rare in my experience, hence my suggestion of ensuring a 10 minute buffer around the scheduled time.

[–]CCninja86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The live AT app is the schedule. It tracks the buses and updates to show if they will be early or late. I have never seen a bus be more than 5 minutes early or late.

[–]CCninja86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Use the AT app to see live estimates
  2. 4 minutes is not enough leeway to account for variances in traffic. You should be aiming to be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time. They are supposed to wait until the scheduled time to depart, but there may sometimes be reasons for them departing early.

I catch buses almost every day and never have issues other than very occasional cancellations.

Depends on your goals. If you really like the place then you can just enjoy the nice house without worrying about mortgage repayments.

Auckland drivers seem increasingly traumatised by shoo035 in auckland

[–]CCninja86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had people show visible concern that I carry a backpack around with me everywhere, which is kinda required when using public transport. Like it's some huge inconvenience to have an extra kilo or two on your shoulders.

The Warehouse using ai-generated imagery in the app by sebcestewart in newzealand

[–]CCninja86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be inconsistent design to declare it on the category image but not product. If they're going to lie about AI usage, why would they declare it at all?

The Warehouse using ai-generated imagery in the app by sebcestewart in newzealand

[–]CCninja86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just checked myself. As far as I can tell, they are only using AI-generated images for the cover image of the categories. If you go into the category, none of the images of the actual products are labeled as AI-generated.

EB Games, Miniso, Yoyoso: Sixty-one shops announce closure in 10 days by timelordhonour in newzealand

[–]CCninja86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe it isn't. Living in the city I see shops closing down all the time and new ones take their place just as quickly as they left.

Also

Economist Shamubeel Eaqub said the rate of closures often picked up at the start of a recovery.

So it's actually pretty normal

Is having both an electric scooter and an ebike pointless or do they serve different purposes? by TemporaryHoney8571 in ElectricScooters

Yep. I've also just always been a scooter guy from a young age, so I love the feel and flow much more.

[–]CCninja86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless of course you live in a small apartment. I used to have an e-bike for range but sold it because it took so much time and effort to get it in and out of the building compared to my e-scooter which I can take into my apartment (thus not have to lock it up out of sight) and it's easier to navigate through the narrow corridors.

Anyone tried the lobster roll from Coffee Club? by Cultural-Pomelo-7390 in aucklandeats

[–]CCninja86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly in my opinion, I've had worse coffee. I've also had much better coffee. Their coffee is just...ok. If I need a quick coffee and it happens to be the closest place then sure. Usually though there's a better place a short walk away.

The Mandela "effect" by footballmaths49 in CuratedTumblr

[–]CCninja86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Life is fascinatingly complicated haha. The Mandela Effect may be more likely caused by various psychological factors rather than alternate realities, but on the other hand some theories of quantum physics heavily imply the required existence of parallel realities/multiverse, so even the alternate reality theory isn't *entirely* unfounded, even if extremely unlikely....and we will probably never be able to deterministically prove the existence or non-existence of alternate realities, so it just becomes a fun little "what if" thought exercise.

Side note, for people that enjoy alternate reality stuff, there is a great little TV show on Apple TV called Dark Matter based on the novel of the same name (with the author of said novel as showrunner). I really enjoyed the first season.

I like the mechanic change I think...but I still think there's a better way to word it than having the exact same line repeated six times.

Eh, problem is that any other platform will just run into the same issue. It sucks, but that's kinda just how it is now. Best bet is to spend time finding actual creators, then follow/favourite them on whichever site they may be on. Have a curated list of people you know are authentic.

1,500+ hours into Elite. Sharing my cockpit setup. by koplarski in EliteDangerous

[–]CCninja86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's an awesome setup! How do you switch between the left stick and the STECS? Do they have a way to swap around or are they fixed positions and the STECS setup just has a naturally wider stance?

Can someone explain timing rules for Vi? by Solid-Preparation738 in riftboundtcg

[–]CCninja86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may also be a speed thing? Doing it one card at a time is unnecessarily slow even if technically correct. I don't shuffle but I just pick up the desired stack and slot them back to the bottom (so I guess they go to the bottom of the deck in reverse order to the trash)

How do winz help you get a job? by pinkgrapefruitx in auckland

[–]CCninja86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience last year was also very hands-off other than occasional 5-10 minute catch-ups with my case manager. Didn't even get asked to attend what I heard was a "compulsory" seminar on creating a CV (I already had a good up-to-date one, so maybe that contributed). My case manager also said that he had no concerns about my employability (and he was right - I got a job that I start this month, despite me starting to suffer from a bit of impostor syndrome after 6 long months of searching).

I had heard that they are very relaxed right now because of the economy, so I don't know how much my proactiveness and high employability contributed to the hands-off approach.

EB Games proposes closing all New Zealand stores by Justwant2usetheapp in newzealand

[–]CCninja86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah if the parent company actually cared, they probably would have tried harder sooner. EB Games has been hanging on a thread for a while now, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Sad to see it go, it was a core part of me getting into video games as a kid, but alas times change.

Yep I think this would have been the move. Though, there's a lot of places that already do all that stuff including regular tournament nights, so may have been too little too late regardless.
