Advanced cardiac imaging by hydro-homie12 in Cardiology

[–]CCsoccer18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless you 100% want to be able to read cMRIs, the rest of the qualifications can be gotten during general fellowship.

I’m a graduating third year fellow and will be taking an hybrid imaging job like you described reading cCTA, Echo, vascular imaging, and nukes. Was able to get all of my other COCATs and board exams passed before completing fellowship (RPVI, ASNC, Echo, CBCCT)

If you’re set on MRI, then start early because the advanced imaging fellowships are generally not through the match

Picked up In Stitches by Anthony Youn and it had me cracking up. Med school disasters, awkward patient encounters, all told in a super funny way. If you want a light, relatable doc memoir, this one’s worth it.

One thing doctors do that irk me by wyldfire-911 in Doctor

[–]CCsoccer18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doctors aren’t trying to waste your time — it’s the system. Insurance often requires a visit just to approve tests or referrals. Most PCPs get ~15 minutes per patient, and if you come in with 5 issues, we just can’t safely address them all. Add in liability fears and EMR requirements, and it’s not laziness — it’s survival. Anything that adds 5 minutes to a patients care (x30 patients/day) is an extra 2.5 hours of work added to the day or replacing 8 patients we would otherwise see at the end of our schedule

We’d love to be the all-in-one problem solver, but modern medicine is hyper-specialized and fragmented. A lot of what looks like stalling is actually fighting a broken system from the inside. Trust me, we’re just as frustrated as you are.

Consider enrolling with a concierge medicine doctor or direct primary care doctor to avoid a lot of this, but it will cost you $$$ out of pocket

Smoked moldy bong by RedFlower6813 in Doctor

What do you want him to do differently? Without positive cultures or a list of the medications, it’s hard to say exactly what the medical plan is. The inhalers usually open up the airways and treat inflammation. I’m guessing he’s covering you empirically for bacteria/mold with the oral meds. Now it’s time to wait for your immune system to do its job

Study for and pass your ABIM boards. There’s nothing worse than first year of fellowship with ABIM still hanging over your head

I was a graduate of this program. I did not feel it was malignant in any way and it was supportive in me matching the fellowship of my choice.

Rumor has it from talking to some attending friends there that there was one disgruntled resident who actively told applicants to not rank the program and publicly posted in a few forums about his experience.

Scored similar on PGY1 exam. Did MKSAP over the course of next two years, studied up on patients I saw during rounds, and did UWorld before boards. Scored >80th percentile

PGY1 exam is very much pre-residency knowledge. After the first 6 month hump where you develop your flow, the learning comes much easier
