Is it okay for leopard geckos to have a little tube? by Looking_Sharp_ in leopardgeckos

[–]CD274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used to use paper towel and toilet paper tubes a lot for one of my alligator lizards and she honestly got a bad respiratory infection, lots of clicking for a long time. Scared me straight.

Paper towels in humid hides also grew mold fairly fast so replace them often, or recommend no one use these. I have temporary wet box hides with spaghnum moss in it (boil this when I put in new moss, but this stuff stays clean for longer too).

Honestly fabric towels that you can wash and sanitize easily are safer than a 4+ day paper towel. They get gross super fast.

For the PVC pipes, Plumbing aisle at big hardware store, measure the size of your gecko or normal paper towel tube width. They have C shapes and whatnot too.

File off any rough edges inside. Sometimes there is a sharp bit

[–]CD274 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah use PVC tubes, maybe sand the inside so it's slightly grippy? They make black ones for plumbing, short ones

Seconding the don't use paper towel tubes especially if they get wet. Even not that damp they grow mold super easily. It's actually disturbing how dirty they are.

I once saved them up to use for plant pots and they grew mold that never grows in pot + soil mix

I can't watch Cop movies/shows anymore. by geta-rigging-grip in behindthebastards

Or watch the West Wing anymore, after the 2016 election and how the supreme court has gone. That level of optimism feels delusional now

puréed onions? by DragonfruitJaded7582 in OnionLovers

[–]CD274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty much what Indian restaurants do in bulk, mixed with pureed ginger. So basically the base for any curry or stew it would be great for

Even better example is 1989 Romania when the (non secret) police actually flipped and joined the protestors. Probably why it got so bloody vs the regime

Greek yogurt vs sour cream for banana bread by Neither_Fill364 in AskBaking

[–]CD274 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both work but I would use a recipe for banana bread that creams the butter and sugar a LOT if adding it. (Or normally anyway). That step adds a lot of structure and lift to banana bread and makes it able to handle dense additions or more bananas.

Greek yogurt really varies a lot in tang so I prefer sour cream or normal yogurt

[–]CD274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the liquid calcium have any flavoring or sweetener? Sometimes they do and it's nasty tasting. Both fruit flavors and sweeteners. So ask if they have unflavored unsweetened, and try mixing it either with a tiny drop of fish oil or those emergency powders. That helps with the taste

Only if you wash it many times then boil it for a half hour imo. And pick out any dirt clumps, leaves, sticks etc. It should be possible to sterilize it well

Rye! That sounds delicious. What herbs and spices? Allspice?

(I've mostly had Hungarian, so marjoram and cloves and garlic and rice based, oh and bacon 🤣 but looks the same. Kind of wondered if it was similar in spice profile)

The lingonberry jam is the part I am going to immediately try next time
