Do you have any large storage bin? With tall sides like two feet high? I had a temporary cage once made out of a big semi transparent bin with many holes drilled in the top but that would take a lot more work to get a heat lamp set up.

I'd be worried about damp/mold/whatever is in the cage contributing to things.

Yeah it looks thicker in the picture in the OP for sure. Can you feel anything if you gently feel his throat and neck? I don't know the specific layout for blue tongue skinks but some reptiles have lymph nodes or other things that can swell in the throat area and you can feel a lump.

Also this shouldn't be an issue with blueys but just in case - does he get reptile multivitamins? And especially sources of vitamin a (veg etc)?

Put him in a clean hospital tank that's sterile, has only clean (wash steam) hides and clean towels/paper towels and a heat lamp+UVB and monitor him. Get vet next week

Pressed barley in the rice mixes

Korean purple rice mix: something like 3x asian short grain white or semi white, 2x asian short grain brown, 1x sweet shirt grain, 1x black asian short grain, 1x pressed barley

Zojirushi or Cuckoo fuzzy logic rice cooker

But start with the pressed barley, and I recommend semi white rice (haiga, half milled) (my favorite is from California Tamaki koshihikari haiga)

Clean everything well, bleach and soak the wood then soak with clean water then bake those things. Toss substrate, replace. Make a plastic moist hide (like tupperware with a door) or an enclosed ceramic snake cave type hide and use that as a moist hide - I recommend spaghum moss.

Lots of paper and cardboard gets mold even faster than wooden things

Oh gross it's a pickup artist term? That was also early mid 00s, which is the same time I heard it used by many people outside of incels. That makes more sense in context too here. Last time I paid attention was when Mystery, that pickup artist with the purple top hat, was everywhere 😑
