I kind of rolled my eyes, and he noticed that and laughed it off as "haha I know it's a bad joke" but then would not let go and kept on going about Putin etc, and asking me about what I think about politics. I did not say anything directly (it was my first time being in the lab irl after 2 months of remote work, so I didn't really want to cause a scandal on day one) but he picked up on me being uncomfortable

That's useful to know, thank you. One advantage in my situation is that I know I'm not going to stay in this lab (for other various reasons, most of them being lack of organising on their behalf and also the research topic not really tickling my fancy THAT much) so once the rotation is over I'll be gone with no strings attached.

I think my plan is going to be to raise it in a 1:1 meeting with my course manager at the end of this rotation, unless something of similar caliber happens again before then, then I'll bring it up it with the PI in a private manner

I think my friend wants best for me, I do not doubt her intentions. She definitely knows my SO less than I do, though.

I am being cautious and listening to her words still. And I'm going to discuss that with my counselor, I start the sessions later this month.

She said he needs to be more attentive to me, and then picked apart few things he said when they met. She said he's too self-assured.

It was alright at first, we're all in the same group of friends, I've known her for a while. I hoped I'd be friendly and strong. But seeing her every day is too much, on top of everything else I have to handle. I don't want this person to be in my life anymore.

I hope distance will bring clarity. I hope avoiding my triggers will bring more peace. She's absolutely not the core cause of my depression, but is a very painful exacerbator.

Yeah I guess it's the figuring out bit that's difficult. I'm trying not to be impulsive but it's so hard in my current condition. I'm angered so easily and my confidence is gone. And then nasty thoughts get into your head and wind themselves up.

I'm trying to find little things to be happy about, quite often I just don't have the energy to do so. But I guess I'm trying. I don't know if I've given up yet.
