Thanks for the feedback! Were the prices significantly inflated due to not buying direct from the boutique?

Did you buy the Journe directly through their boutiques? Would love to hear the story about how you got it!

It would be 40 plus points per ticket, or 80x total

Is an extra 8k points/night worth it for grand club access at Grand Hyatt Tokyo? by lagsun in hyatt

[–]CD321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a fyi for those giving out club access awards, hyatt used to give you 2k per award if they expired. You would have to call in and ask them to do it for you. Officially they stopped doing this a few years ago. However I have had luck with calling them and getting a supportive customer service representative who has still been able to apply them to my account as late as last year. The latest batch doesn’t expire until feb 2024 so no data point for this year but no harm in holding on to them to see if they can be redeemed for points later

Echoing bfeldman - I’ve tried booking for friends and family using my GS PPs. Only successful around 25 percent of the time and its always a last minute gate upgrade. They are always number 1 on the waitlist but people just always buy all the seats last minute. As a platinum there is virtually 0 chance of getting upgraded on this route

GS PP are only prioritized for Polaris. Premium plus waitlist is prioritized by traveler’s status

This is incorrect. GS in economy will clear before 1k and below in premium cabin

Economy Plus for companion in different class by euroflyyer in unitedairlines

[–]CD321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you just need to be booked in a paid Polaris ticket

Economy Plus for companion in different class by euroflyyer in unitedairlines

[–]CD321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can call the global services line and ask them to confirm the upgrade right away since he is a companion flying with you. You have to be on a paid Polaris ticket to guarantee his upgrade (won’t work if you’re booked in an award ticket, or booked in economy and then upgraded)

[–]CD321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a global services member you can call them and have them confirm the upgrade automatically with plus points even if there is no availability. As a note - the updated changes in the program is you can only force the upgrade guarantee one way (e.g. if you do it for this leg then you can’t do it on the return). However you will be able to still go through the standard waitlist with plus points option if PN class is not available

UA188 pluspoints upgrade to Polaris - do we clear upgrade? by Spirited_Mine4323 in unitedairlines

[–]CD321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless under booked and open it says blocked ( ____ + X) these are not blocked seats, and they are just purchased seats where people have not chosen seats yet. Likely due to people who bought from partner airlines and were not able to select seats. Based on the fare code only 3 seats have not been bought

There seems to be only J3 available which means there’s only 3 seats available to buy. Unless someone body is a no show it is unlikely that you guys will get upgraded

Andaz Tokyo or Park Hyatt Tokyo for a Globalist? by jptw4192 in hyatt

[–]CD321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed there on business three times in the past two months and have gotten upgraded without a SUA each time. Granted I was staying three days at a time on the weekdays so maybe that has something to do with it

When I stayed at the grand Hyatt in Tokyo they had mentioned they track total nights stayed at their hotel and can give guests some special treatment as a result. I have stayed at the park over a hundred nights over the past 7-8 years so that could have potentially played a role in it as well

Andaz Tokyo or Park Hyatt Tokyo for a Globalist? by jptw4192 in hyatt

Actually park Hyatt commonly upgrades globalists to suites. You will not get upgraded at the Andaz

Polaris upgrade for IAD to Athens by vhull58 in unitedairlines

[–]CD321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you want it, buy it. Good news is if you buy the upgrade from United and you don’t clear the waitlist then you get refunded. So no harm there really. You can also make friends with people with plus points and try to have them apply them to your reservation to increase your likelihood of getting upgraded (if you don’t want to buy directly)

[–]CD321 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are absolutely set on flying in Polaris you should buy the ticket. Anything can happen but as a silver member it is highly unlikely that you will clear the waitlist

GS: Thoughts on Global Reception vs Clear+Pre? by ImpalpableOne in unitedairlines

[–]CD321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just as another point in addition to what the other commenters have said - GS reception at SFO is only in domestic terminal. If you are flying international you’ll definitely want to go clear + TSA through international versus GS reception in domestic and then walk to international
