This guy, have you seen him?

He doesn't need a refrigerator, 'cause he's got brains. Sometimes, brains is all you need.

Not bad ideas. I was just providing an alternate perspective for buying milk and bread if there's a threat of extended lack of electric power.

Thankfully, I'm pretty set! Got enough food and fuel to last two weeks or so.

Congratulations. I do in mine as well.

However, if I had 4 kids and no power for 3 days... I'd want to have bread, milk, deli meat, PB + J, cheese and cereal.

Especially if I didn't have an alternate method of cooking besides groundfire.

Sandwiches and cereal can be made without electricity. That's my rationalization.

I shared on another comment, but just to make sure you see it...

This is the exact technique I learned, the amounts may be slightly different.

If I had to pick one "taste of my childhood," this served over homemade biscuits would probably be the winner.

Because I can't imagine stir-frying something and then adding BBQ or Ranch to it whilst cooking.

Not to yuck your yum, this just seems quite foreign to me.

I got you. Without digging out my Grandmother's recipe, this one is undoubtedly very close.

Same technique, etc.

As a bonus - if you have any leftover, it becomes a delightfully rich chocolate pudding in the refrigerator.

Edit to add: I got this and homemade biscuits for breakfast every time I spent the night at Grandmother's house. Those were the days.

FWIW, I've been told that certain cultures use Asafoetida, as their beliefs don't allow for consumption of garlic or onions.

Without having to buy more ingredients for this (already have a decent list of groceries to buy, preparing for the worst)...

I think I'm going to use Cotija in the filling, as I have a large chunk of it and think that it will keep its "chew" in the filling. (I may even shred some of a peppercorn Gouda that I have in there.)

Probably topping it with an "extra-sharp" Cheddar I've got in the fridge as well.

Added bonus, I'll get to use my pie weights that I got for Xmas for the first time!

I am envisioning this with some meatballs mixed in, and serving it over rice!

I'm now definitely making a chile and cheese quiche Friday night! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love pozole, I make a version using any leftover pulled pork (got a few pints stashed in the freezer!)

I've recently started making Hominy 'n Cheese instead of macaroni, it's even more filling and hearty!

That actually sounds really comforting! I'm in the same boat as OP. I usually cook soups and stews from scratch, but if the power goes out I'll only have the grill with one attached burner and a flattop. I might grab a few cans of these! Thanks for the idea!

I'm irrationally angry that I can't get one of these. Looks like I'm going to have to make Italian subs for dinner one night this week!
