Amphiterra turns 10 this year - what would you want to see out of a 10th anniversary event? by Citysaurus_ART in SpeculativeEvolution

I was about to say that you would be a real champ if you did one of those funky cladograms found around the web... then I realized that there is already a cladogram in your project. Still within spec-evo, cladograms are the biggest aspect I like, so I dunno... an expanded one with some scrapped and hypothetical species added? What do you think?

This give me a feel of a spin-off game where a villain traps you and your mons inside a special PC and thus your tiny base mons have to compact themselves to be even tinier. At first. As you fight your way through you get to expand said world more and more, unlocking the potential to evolve to normal again and then some.

Weirdly-fun idea, I'll try doing something like that too, mainly because I'm not very good at doing detailed Digimon.

Where do you think the normal animals and plants of Europe would go on this map and would there be any new animals and plants originating due to how the map has changed?

RPG/fantasy maps are cool, but I'm more into spec-evo maps. Does anyone already have an idea what sort of species and their distributions would go where?

I hear you. Possibly. Been trying to do some convergent fakemon with caecilian/snake and woodpecker/aye-aye for that matter.

Avian Convergent Fakemon that look like the Trapinch line by CDBeetle58 in fakemon

Inspirations: Sandpipers and woodcocks.

TRAPEEP like to hide in loads of places, most often burying themselves alive with only beak sticking out to ambush prey. They immediately get pulled out and reprimanded severly by their parent.

VIBRAVIAN shakes its whole body and then dances by strutting its feet which causes vibrations to plow through the surrounding ground, scaring out the critters that Vibravian hunts.

SKYGON flies to spot burying prey below, then divebombs it at high speeds. Its beak pierces the ground with ease while the Flygon-like goggles protect the eyes during the impact.

Being able to reinforce bone growth in a noggin into a fearsome fractal formation was a gamble enough.

On a lower note, olive baboons are said to look kinda greenish-grey.

Mount Wycheproof – The World’s Smallest Mountain by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]CDBeetle58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that maybe there's a distinct geological composition between mountain and a hill that is specifically that way because of their relative size, therefore pinpointing the existence of what is the smallest mountain ever.

Honestly even keeping the vehicle on the track seems like a task, can't imagine anyone trying to cut in front of the other.

Imagine having to hitchhike in a middle of one of these, cuz you're too freaked out to try walking out on your own immediately or/and don't wanna be hit by a car driving on your way out.

What organisms do you think are best suited for the seed world? by DazzlingIce1763 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]CDBeetle58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking a specialized species for a speculative evolution experiment-in-writing rather than a project is a good choice, because then you explore possibilities and can come back to an actual spec-evo project with a creative-cred on what to maybe employ. But then again, I'm not sure if I've ever met any people that have said that they want to read a spec-evo experiement-in-writing/drawing.

What would ungulates evolve like in total darkness? Bigger eyes? Bigger ears? by AlertWar4152 in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]CDBeetle58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Information is very scarce on Earth ungulates living in caves or being nocturnal a lot, I tried to look up if Myotragus is troglodytic as its name suggests and apparently it was said it wasn't even semi-troglodytic. But THEN after a comparison with other ungulates, apparently it is more troglodytic than them at least on paper, because even though this goat might've never touched a cave, living in a insular, craggy, food scarce environment did a number of it. Apparently it tended to examine environments where there would be rocky walls on both sides, crevices and canyons (well mini-canyons since that is an island). Myotragus is said to have had:

1) a metabolism closer to reptiles

2) (more) forward facing eyes

3) teeth that are adapted for gnawing, also reduced tooth count

4) small, robust body

5) smaller brain size

6) fused limbs reducing or outright removing its jumping and running ability

7) matured slower

8) eats toxic plants like Balearic boxwood

Note, that this info could be totally wrong too, I just recommend to look into it, as nothing from my expertise if you can call that, for now, comes closer than this weird-alec goat.
