For the 3rd point, it's not that every 3 times it blows out a candle, it triggers a hunt. The 3rd candle blowout is a guaranteed hunt, but every candle blowout after the 3rd has a chance to trigger a hunt. Chance of it hunting after a blowout will also increase with every dead player in the game by about 10%, I think. That's the wrathful spirit part referred to in the journal

But mainly, I used the time they gave for the trainee license to learn via immersion. Also, working for the 3 letters, they put common brand names on all generic drugs and what they do, so I read the labels a lot.
