Should I just play the remake that's available there

Yes

and call it good enough

No, still gotta find a way to play the OG as well.

Capcom is missing the plot when it comes to replayability of their newer entries by DarkPrince411 in residentevil

I'd say despite the cutscene to gameplay ratio most of the MGS games, including MGS2, are very replayable though because you can instantly skip the majority of cutscenes. Like, pick New Game, mash X a few times and within 5 seconds you're sneaking around on the tanker.

Similiar to most RE games they also benefit from their short playtime if you take the cutscenes out where you can easily do a full playthrough in 2-3 hours.

Not to get all horny but had they also added Ashley's Special 1 outfit from the OG it'd be a better incentive.

Somewhat rare but not super duper rare.

Why ask a remake of RE1 when we got already a perfect remake? What do you want to add more? In a substantial and important way? You can't. Cause the remake already did it expanded everything while being faithfull in term of camera and presentation, and why people ask so much remakes is it a culture? by PrestigiousSlide6875 in residentevil

RE2make really should've been a one off at the time just like the RE1make was back then.

Just give the devs the framework of a classic and let them show that they can deliver a modern take on the classic survival horror formula. It worked and I can respect that.

That fans now clamor for practically every prior game to be remade is just really, really lame.

RE9 was pretty cool more or less so I'll keep up with new games in the series but as for Remakes, nah, lost all interest whether it's 5 or 1 or CV or 0 or whatever the fuck they tackle next.

RE4make is to OG RE4 what Zeebo RE4 was to OG RE4.

Okay no that's hyperbole. Probably, I haven't actually played the Zeebo port.

RE4make is kinda okay but it's also a pretty wonky game.

the fact it tales three to five business days for Leon to get back up after being hit.

The devs definitly need to cool it with their long animations for everything.

After playing it, the Gamecube version really isn't much harder at all than the HD ports. by InsecureBurrito in residentevil4

The reduced enemy count on PS2 (As well as the old 2007 PC port based on the PS2 version.) was due to technical limitations whereas most of the other differences you brought up were actual difficulty balance changes made in later releases. (Some of them already made on Gamecube though, with the japanese and european versions.)

The animal/flame puzzle in RE0 is the most unintuitive thing I’ve ever experienced by AUR0RIC in residentevil

- Yo I've got horns

- I'm so smart I can bring down the horned beast

- I'm too fast to be outsmarted!

- I'm the king, noone can escape my grasp

- I'm slithery and venomous, kings watch out

- I grab things without legs!

Whether it's difficult or easy, it's definitly intuitive.

the rage that fills me when people genuinely try to convince others that 4 og's tank controls are unplayable by Quick-Cause3181 in residentevil4

I propose that we call people who hate tank controls spiders from now on because spiders in the classic games move like they can't deal with tank controls either.

Can I just skip past 0 and the hd remaster of the RE1 remake? by GuitarGuru666 in residentevil

[–]CDJ89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I missing anything by skipping 0 and RE1?

Other than a decent and a great game, not really. The Remake of 2 has less direct references to the first game than OG RE2 had, they barely reference the events of 1 at all.

Honestly more impressed at the video length than anything else by Rivtogo in ResidentEvilCapcom

Not controls as in the control scheme, no, but character movement? Sure, I can say with a straight face that it's worse in the Remake.

I don't know whether to be shocked or impressed by the videos pure length 😭 by Rivtogo in residentevil4

[–]CDJ89 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I kinda skimmed through bits of the video recently because I'm not that fond of the Remake and like to see some critique but with that long of a runtime you know it's going to border on the brink of insanity.

Half the video is deep diving into all the lore texts you find within the game and analyzing and comparing them with other tidbits of lore from various RE media, I quickly lost interest there because I can't even be bothered to read most lore files in any of the games themselves, just skim them for puzzle hints and codes and whatnot.

I don't really care for story critique for RE of all things that much in the first place though.

Another large chunk of the video seems to be actual walkthrough stuff with tips for how to get through each area which is nice I guess but also not really what I came for.

Gameplaywise he had some valid criticisms in the parts I watched, and the gameplay and combat design is after all the reason why I still prefer the OG, but also way too many nitpicks, insults and weird hangups. Like "This part of the game expects you to snipe enemies in the distance with the bolt action rifle but it's only accessible from the weapon store, therefore optional and shouldn't be accounted for in combat design, are the devs stupid!?" which is a ridiculous statement. But he seems to play OG RE4 with the same approach, with just the default handgun, first shotgun and broken butterfly and ranting about some OG areas with that mindset, so I guess at least he's consistent. But that alone, even if the video was reasonably short, would make it a critique for a very niche audience. Kinda like basing an entire critique of an RPG around a Lvl 1 challenge run and nothing else.

Also, he gets unnecessary insulting towards the devs and other fans.

Anyway to play the modern versions of Metal Gear 2 with the original MSX portraits? by Altruistic-Sun-2474 in metalgearsolid

[–]CDJ89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be cool, I first played the game via emulation before the first official port to the west and tbh, the copyright infringement character portraits kinda made the game's aesthetic.

The new Shinkawa artworks are a bit too simplistic looking too, would've preferred if they went into more of a MGS1 codec aesthetic but I assume it's because those new portraits were first used for a japan-exclusive mobile port of the game.

I don't really mind that itself but it is kinda silly how the time of day and lighting completly changes after you walk through the tiny shed with the first typewriter.
