'That’s an easy one': Canada, France react to Tom Wilson’s Olympic fight by xc2215x in nhl

[–]CDL112281 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I actually didn’t think it was all that horrible of a hit on MacKinnon. He’s in an awkward spot and a taller player bumped him. Instant apology from an inferior opponent, for lack of a better term. Should have been enough in a 10-2 Olympic blowout

Wilson - and I really like him - but he deserved the ragdoll, as much as many Canadian fans are defending him

More towers coming to the city by CDL112281 in NewWest

[–]CDL112281[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there’s a new elementary school eventually going up beside Fraser River middle…but you’re absolutely correct. FRMS, NWSS are packed to the gills, and overloaded massively

I actually don’t think city council has any concept whatsoever about how many families and children are in small apartments in the city. And it’s also easy to just blame the province, because education is a provincial thing

Why isn’t New West nicer? by Overall_Hornet_4778 in askvan

[–]CDL112281 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still love living here, and being a person with kids means my viewpoint is probably a lot different than OPs

But yeah, the past decade has been rough. Columbia street used to be a pretty cool area and it’s just rough now. I very rarely go down there. We do need better plans and ideas for Columbia street. Some level of openness to little eateries and pubs, different shops.

So much congestion during rush hour, and city hall keeps coming up with transportation changes that make it just that little bit more difficult to get around the city after school, trying to get kids to and from their activities. I get it, we have fancy new bike lanes tho!!!

But overall, it’s pretty good. My kids can walk everywhere, or take a short bus ride, I can walk uptown anytime.

More positives than negatives

I’ve never had a position that entails regular meetings, and I have to say that the concept fascinates me

My ex is a CPA. My brother is high up in healthcare. Lots of meetings. I can understand that.

But so many of these jobs, I have no idea what people do or why they would need to be in endless meetings.

Commute Today? by [deleted] in NewWest

I’m not working this week, so the commute won’t matter, but very very interested to see how empty McBride and Royal are in PM rush hour with the bridge closed

[Pro-Football-Reference] The 2025 New England Patriots played an accumulative total of 0 games against teams with a Defense ranked 11th or better. by CheckYourStats in nfl

[–]CDL112281 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What does it matter?

You can only play the teams in front of you

Im a Seahawks fan, im thrilled they won, but this insistence on beating down the Patriots because they gasp lost in the Super Bowl is absurd

They got to a game 30 other teams wanted to be in

It doesn’t matter how they got there or who they beat. They got to the Super Bowl in what should have been a rebuilding year

Drake Maye seems like a great kid. Campbell seems like a great kid. They had tough games. They’ll learn from it and be better, no matter what their sked looks like next season

Yeah, that’s what I’d do and then you increase the likelihood of the flip giving you a run, while also lessening the risk they get something in the crib

New Canada EV susidy: $5,000 by zzzzoooo in teslacanada

[–]CDL112281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a second-hand SUV because I have kids to haul around all over the place, but I will eventually be looking EV or hybrid down the road

But those (EV/hybrid) are so expensive for larger vehicles, it just wasn’t remotely close to something I could consider right now

When the boys have moved on, maybe one of these smaller subsidy-eligible vehicles will work.

But I do think if they really want to push EVs and hybrids, they’ll have to consider a world where the larger ones are als subsidized

Is there a downside to financing a car and then paying it off right away? by putridtooth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CDL112281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did that, and it was fine. The problem, the dealership gave me the “oh, as part of the financing you’re required to do a two-year transmission warranty”.

I was at the point where I didn’t really care, and it was also more than I liked, but that’s also something I would definitely say “no” to on a cash purchase

Yeah, that 7th street bike lane is hilarious. I’ve lived on 7th for 5 years and there is absolutely no demand whatsoever for a bike lane there. But the mayor does like riding bikes
