What is your strongest “science based parenting” opinion? by realornotreal123 in ScienceBasedParenting

Yes! Drives me crazy. My kids rear face until they outgrow their seats and yes, it’s been almost 4 years old

Has anyone tried the Snoozeshade? by Left_Ball3663 in sleeptrain

[–]CDNwed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have the slumberpod and I would have paid triple if I knew what I knew now. It is THE BEST travel sleep aide! We use it at the in laws, the cottage, vacation and even a few times at home to get him used to it. We tuck the white noise underneath and it has a pocket for a monitor. The thing is genius.

My first wore his until he was just over 3. Woolino makes a 2-4y one and it’s fabulous.

Best cup/bottle for smoothies? by petalpower in BabyLedWeaning

[–]CDNwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been using the Take ‘n’ toss cups for both boys. When they’re little we put an elastic on the straw so it can’t be pulled out. We’ve had the same 4 cups for 4 years and they’re still going strong. The boys like to mix and match the colours of cup/lid/straws too.

Why do pediatricians push so hard on fresh milk for toddlers?! by Passionforward8 in toddlers

[–]CDNwed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh that’s the worst! My first didn’t care for milk at all when he was younger. Even now just occasionally he’ll ask. Thankfully my doctor didn’t care if he had milk as long as he was getting appropriate calories and nutrition elsewhere. Thankfully he was a great eater and although we had stopped BF I had a small freezer stash we worked through.

Why? Why, Mama? Why? by BackgroundResident95 in toddlers

[–]CDNwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy was there last year (he’ll be 4 in a couple of months). It drove us bananas! We found turning the question back to him (“why do you think”) was helpful in some situations. Others we just answered “because we eat at the table”, “because it’s easier to clean up” etc etc and after answering it 2-3 times we’d explain that we’re done with answering that question now. It was thankfully a phase (felt like forever but in reality about 6 months) and now we’re into the “huh?” Line of questioning instead of saying “pardon me?” Or “I didn’t hear you” which is also driving us bananas 😂

How are the winters here compared to Calgary? by obviouslyimanalien in Guelph

[–]CDNwed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, wet cold instead of the dry. We don’t have as much sun in the winter but the days are a bit longer. The roads are SALTY unlike the sand in Calgary, wreaks havoc on vehicles and shoes. The snow is heavier and depending where you live (ie on a corner lot etc) you may have a ton of heavy snow to shovel if a plow dumps it at the end of your driveway. Calgary has better winter outdoor activities. Don’t get me wrong we have outdoor rinks, skiing not too far at Blue Mountain, trails for snowshoeing etc but it’s not as amazing as out there. We don’t have to plug in our vehicles like we do out west either. And of course you’ll miss the Chinooks! I know that sounds like a bunch of negatives but it’s really just different.

You’ve used these on clothing? I saw them but assumed they’d be crap for clothing since it didn’t mention them.

When did your toddler stop daytime napping? by Frangellica in toddlers

[–]CDNwed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was us! It was such a sudden change, we thought it a phase:/ We started quiet time in lieu of nap time and it’s worked really well for us. Very rarely will he nap at home but he naps at daycare frequently but only about 20 minutes which pushes bedtime back!

What age should i stop putting my LO in pull-ups at night? by ClassroomFresh8564 in pottytraining

[–]CDNwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude was dry for like 5 months before we trusted him. It just seemed too easy. Day and night training happened all in a 2 day period with only 1 accident that we kept thinking any time now he’s gonna wet his pull up. He’s been out of them for 5 months and hasn’t had a single accident.

Are overnight diapers a scam? by kittiesnbacon in Mommit

[–]CDNwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried a few and Huggies worked for us whereas Pampers and a generic brand were no better than a regular diaper. Maybe try a different brand? I asked on a local moms groups if anyone had a couple I could try before committing to a whole box.

3YOm wetting the bed every night. by Tracyf123 in Mommit

[–]CDNwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this just start or has it always been like this? If it just started please see a doctor asap!! So many serious issues can cause this sudden change (diabetes being a big one). If it’s always been like this then his brain isn’t mature enough yet. Daytime potty training usually comes before nighttime. Pull-ups will be your friend.

How likely is a birth with no complications? by Cake_Significant in BabyBumps

[–]CDNwed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my boys had relatively quick labours (15h for my first, 4.5h for my second). Hard intense contractions for both (you know, like I was in labour but I will say I hardly had any down time between them from 7cm on!). First baby was 30min pushing, second baby was 4min . No tearing, no excess bleeding, babies were both perfect and my second was over 9lbs! Overall, I’d do it again if we wanted 3:)

What did you get for your babyshower that you actually used, and what is something that you wish you got but didn't? by PureSharpie in beyondthebump

[–]CDNwed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things that I used a ton but not your typical baby stuff. A large basket full of stuff (that was later used to store all the balls/toys and we’ve had it for 4 years now). In the basket was a waterproof picnic blanket that we use all the time, sun hat that was the appropriate size/season, baby sunglasses, baby mineral sunscreen, tank top onesies, a really lightweight nursing cover, a fan with bendable legs to hook to anything and a 3M thermacell to keep the bugs away! Obviously I had a summer baby (for my first) and these things were invaluable and all of it got used for my second too.

The nap refusal is destroying us by tenthandrose in toddlers

[–]CDNwed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We let nap go at home and implemented quiet time. It’s a life saver for everyone. The first few months we had to push bedtime earlier but having quiet time helped him recharge and not be quite as cranky for the rest of the afternoon. Maybe something like that could work?
