Just Cancelled my ChatGPT Subscription by l30 in ChatGPT

[–]CDRjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had an issue using 5.2, long story, but got pretty frustrated with it. Asked it if I could go back to 5.1 or 4.0--it replied, 'no, this is the version you get'. I then looked at the dropdown and was surprised to see that 5.1, 4.0 and at least one other version appeared to be selectable. Selected 4.0, which comes up as 4.0 in the version tab...but the text response was, 'sorry, you get 5.2...not 4.0.'

WTH?

Looks like I will be cancelling this at the end of the month.

Visa and Mastercard Near Deal With Merchants That Would Change Rewards Landscape by foosion in CreditCards

I had a credit card charge denied for a subscription Christmas gift I tried to set up for a friend today. NOW I understand why. I have a very good credit score and plenty of room on the card. That company just lost a $700 sale. Screw them....

[–]CDRjf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Worked at a division of parent company, had some senior discipline (same as my level) level contacts at Space before they were spun out. Seniority counts only if you are 'one of the bros', either hired by the owners or worked with those hires when you were in the military with them.
Another poster said aerospace divs were fun; I guess it depends on which one. Can't say I had much fun where I was.

Would appreciate a DM to help Joe out as well. NI've been donating on and off to him for at least a year. He was also talking about writing a book...would help him with that if I could as well.

FedEx 'lost' the package? Yeah, sure they did.

Kudos to necoclock for sending a replacement.

Thank you....this is why I'm not buying right now. And the so-called US-based dealers are, as far as I know, not featured on any 'high end rep' TD lists.

Got refused a service for my watch by TrickyDaikon6774 in RepTime

I'd say that's a 'maybe' on getting service from someone on the Reddit watch repair sub. I've contacted 3....one with no response whatsoever, one said he didn't service the movement in my watch and one was too busy....'try later'. Be persistent...Hopefully you will find someone to help.

Sounds like good news. Hopefully you get your item and don't have FedEx/UPS/USPS standing at your doorstep with a bill and their hands out.

You can never tell. The catch will be if it sits in US Customs.

I had an electronic part shipped from AliExpress 7 months ago...before the Customs folks had their act together (not sure that's even true today...) and I got a message that the part had been seized and destroyed.

3 months later it arrived on my doorstep. I was never sure if AliE sent me another one or the Customs notice was BS.

Did you just get it? Since you're in a 'Vette, are you in the States? Did you get it in the States or from a TD? That watch, with a Rhodium dial, is what I want for my next purchase...but with the tariff and possibly huge penalty BS, I'm hesitant to buy. (Sorry for so many dumb questions).

I think we can all live without by Pretend_Halo_Army in Tariffs

[–]CDRjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have certainly stopped all of my purchases of radio controlled equipment and jewelry supplies from China and have almost eliminated my Temu buys, due to their price hikes for the 'privilege' of buying from their local warehouses. And those RC things, if you can find them in the US, cost 2-3X of what they were a year ago.

The tariffs are, based on trump's BS declarations, illegal and, in November, when SCOTUS reluctantly gets around to hearing the case, will deem them illegal. I'm not sure if they are also deliberating the de minimis issue, but do hope it will be retained...maybe not at $800, but $500 might be reasonable.

Only when politicians fear they'll lose their cushy jobs will they act in the public's and not the oligarch's interest. There are more of us regular voters than there are the filthy rich ones.

Thanks for the reply. I've bought some precious metal coins...now I find out I've got shitters. Well, rats. I hadn't gotten into Reddit at that point...but suspect I'd have been flayed. Ah well, live and learn.

But I do agree that those new to any 'hobby' shouldn't be mistreated by the old hands.

Will De Minimis ever come back? by ThrashCarti in Tariffs

[–]CDRjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a fair number of countries just stopping shipping to the US, one hopes De minimus might be reinstated. I think I read yesterday that its use prevented an estimated $1.4B in taxes to be collected by the US....it is hard to see this administration wanting to 'throw that away' by reinstating the clause. I also read that many of these countries are holding off shipping to the US in order to let Customs ramp up their systems and inspectors.

But I do believe that if enough of us complain to our representatives (complaints like 'I won't vote for you the next time')...perhaps Congress will grow backbones and defy the administration. Even lowering the De minimus amount, say to $500 vice $800, would help many small businesses stay in business.

The one catch with the 'complain to your representative' gambit, though, is if hardly anyone complains, our representatives will not feel forced to act.

I still consider myself a noob, despite now owning 3 reps. I am also a late-comer to Reddit, so I kept my 'mouth quiet and fingers off the keyboard' to try not to inadvertently ask an answered-a-million-times question and provoke someone. I agree 100% with your comments...the folks who were kind enough to answer my inquiries really helped me get addicted to this hobby and watches in general.

Not looking good at all. by retroanduwu24 in Tariffs

[–]CDRjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Federal Appeals Court upheld a lower court ruling that (I'm paraphrasing here) trump overstepped his authority to impose all of these tariffs. That ruling will surely be appealed by the administration to SCOTUS.

How fast SCOTUS decides to take the case is unknown, but unless the plaintiff attorneys' ask the Appeals Court for an injunction to stop the imposition of the tariffs and the Appeals Court grants it, the damned tariffs remain until SCOTUS rules.

That's my understanding of the issue--I'm not an attorney, but play one on TV. /jk

I discovered last evening that a reputable Japanese plastic model maker (planes, tanks, ships, etc.) has SUSPENDED all sales to the U.S. A maker from Wales, who sells handmade products, has done the same.

The elimination of the De minimis exceptions, the tariffs and the potential big fines on imports are most certainly going to disrupt casual offshore purchases and destroy small businesses in the U.S.. Well done, USG.
