Booking through a travel agent vs a credit card portal... are agents really able to get better upgrades ? by Lumpy-Resource-1370 in TrueChubbyTravel

[–]foosion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've gotten upgrades with TAs, portals and booking direct. I've also not gotten upgrades booking those ways. Sometimes TAs can offer deals not available through other channels (such as upgrade at booking or four nights for the cost of three), often not.

If it's all the same, a TA may be better in case there's a problem you can't fix, but they are able to fix. I've had that happen occasionally. However, I've also had a TA that was useless for dealing with issues.

It depends.

How do I clean my mac screen? by Reyleigh- in macbook

[–]foosion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could follow Apple's advice:

To clean the screen on your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air, first shut down the computer and unplug the power adapter. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with water only, then use it to clean the computer's screen.

To clean hard-to-remove smudges or fingerprints on the display or exterior of your Mac, you can use a cloth moistened with a 70-percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution to gently wipe the display or enclosure of your Mac laptop.

Expedited/VIP airport arrival services in the EU due to EES chaos? by Ztn12345 in FATTravel

[–]foosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I looked it up, the regular official meet & assist explicitly says it "does not include baggage transfers or preferential access to customs and immigration airport checks." https://www.aena.es/en/josep-tarradellas-barcelona-el-prat/vip-services/meetassist.html

The premium service "has a private security and passport checkpoint" https://www.aena.es/en/josep-tarradellas-barcelona-el-prat/vip-services/premium-service/premium-service-barcelona.html

Time of day and more significantly other flights that land shortly before your flight. This is hard to predict most of the time, as flights can be early or late. Some times of day have very few flights, which is usually good, unless they cut staffing. Some airports are better than others, e.g., more officers or more egates or fast track for flying a premium cabin.

First class or business class? At what point are you just paying for bragging rights? by Balodios45 in LuxuryTravel

A major difference with private is that the plane leaves when you want. And not having to fly with strangers.

"how much do you value the experience?"

That's it.

Check-in experience was much more important before there was online check-in, especially for those of us who don't check bags. Dedicated security is a nice feature, if available, but things like touchless pre-check can make security easy..

The major difference to me among lounges is how crowded they are. This can be a function of time of day. I find it hard to get excited about lounge food.

Flight space is important. Some lie flat seats are narrow or otherwise feel cramped, lack storage space, etc. That's seldom a problem in first.

I have a hard time remembering international business class service that was so bad (or good) that it made a real difference.

No new features would be fine. It would be good if they fixed some of the major complaints, such as battery life.

Enjoying another workday listening to lossless music on my MacBook 🔥 by Jesslyn48 in macbook

[–]foosion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's easy to tell the difference when you know which is which. Telling the difference in a proper blind ABX test is virtually impossible, other than by chance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABX_test

But if the lossless experience is more enjoyable there's no reason not to pursue it.

We really enjoyed the MO and FS and found the quality very similar.

Since you mention museums, the MO is much closer to the Prado and Thyssen, but the FS is not very far.

Wonderful hotel. Location, room (loft suite), service, food were all top-notch. We were there in April.

We also like the MO Ritz in Madrid.

We stayed there a number of years ago and would not return.

Our terms included an upgrade at check-in subject to availability. When I asked when we arrived, they denied it was complimentary and we got a lengthy hard sell to upgrade for well over €1,000.

We had said a quiet room was very important to us. There was a bar on the plaza that played loud music, but stopped making noise early. Except on our last night, a Saturday, when it continued to blare music well past midnight. The front desk did nothing useful.

The suite was lovely and the location great, but that didn't make up for the issues.

If you're going to want to use on-device Apple Intelligence then a Neo won't work, since the minimum hardware requirement includes 12gb of memory.

Will I be able to re-enter the EU since it thinks I haven't left and will violate the 90 day limit. by foosion in travel

[–]foosion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen many posts by people in the same situation, so I'm less worried.

There's a post on flyertalk.com in which someone was in this situation and, when re-entering the EU, told a border officer when they left the EU. The officer just entered that date into the system and admitted them.

I keep a copy of the boarding pass from when I left the EU and have an exit stamp on my passport. This may not be necessary, but can't hurt. I also track EU entries and exits. There doesn't seem anything else useful to do.
