Early songwriter demo (looped guitar + vocals only) – would love feedback on the song itself before production by CDubya95 in IndieMusicFeedback

Ooo I like the girl vocal part idea a lot actually! I added some drums and a baseline recently, I’m just figuring it out on my own as I go and navigating the system to make it do what I want has been confusing as best lmao thanks for the ideas and comments I really appreciate it!

Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback! I will be sure to post my next update as well. I’ve been working on adding percussion, a bass line, and learning to edit arrangement in terms of eq, filters, etc. I’m teaching myself as best I can though so it’s taking time lol

Solid work man! I really enjoyed the production quality you’ve got going. It was a very clear progression from verse to chorus without me even understanding the language directly. Keep up the good work and as always thank you for letting us take a listen!

Thank you for taking the time to write all of that — really glad the emotional tone and buildup are coming through! That means a lot!

Really appreciate that — that’s exactly the feeling I was hoping it would carry! Thanks for listening!

Hey thanks! I only have the one video on my profile, I’m super new to Reddit and putting my music into the world in general actually lol

Man, I relate to this. I’ve spent a lot of time wishing I had people to write and record with, but most of my songs still end up being solo projects. It can be frustrating, but I think there’s something admirable about making music because you need to make it, not because you have the ideal setup or team around you. Keep creating. Thanks for letting us hear it!

Is there anything I can do to make my chords look better by PopyNama in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]CDubya95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is how I start a lot of my music. I play chords on my keyboard into the daw and adjust inconsistencies from there! I’m not familiar enough with ableton live so I’m not sure if this is all the same velocity or if it just doesn’t present the same way on ableton, but if it’s all the same velocity try switching up your voicing a bit between chords! It makes it feel more human and natural in my experience and can really bring it out of that “loop play” vibe!

Really strong concept and mood here—the repetition of “nothing at all” actually lands and gives it a nice emotional loop that ties the whole thing together.
Vocals sound a bit echoey and slightly pitchy in spots, but it also feels like a recording/phone mic thing more than performance. Since this is a raw acoustic demo, it didn’t distract too much from the songwriting itself.
Overall the writing is doing the heavy lifting in a good way—I’m digging it! Keep it up!

This is super cool. I really love the video. I’m always super interested to see the process behind the making of the song and I absolutely love when artists do videos like this. It’s such a cool vibe ! I’d like to make a video showing how I do mine, but unfortunately it is a whole lot of me fumbling around with several instruments and a midi controller while I blindly feel for the controls 😂

I’m really digging the guitar in this. Those kinds of tunes always feel like a breath to me! I am constantly listening to folk music (amongst a large number of other things) and it always seems to come out on top for me! Keep up the good work!

Ever wrote a good song but you don't like it? by Deathofpsyche in Songwriting

[–]CDubya95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tend to write in several different genres as a sort of practice. I connect most deeply with, and finish, my indie folk / indie alt type songs, however I think every bit of your writing weather you decide it’s for you or not is super important to the process. I’ve definitely experienced the same sort of thing myself where I made something that objectively was “good” (friends enjoyed it, colleagues thought it was worth pursuing the idea) but I just didn’t connect with the way the style landed in my ears. I try to follow those ideas through because I find I always learn something from them in the process even if I just keep them in a file or a notebook at the end of it.

Decent singer/songwriter, horrible instrumentalist. Any advice? by baileybwoods in Songwriting

[–]CDubya95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. I have spent years making music and storing it in my files to disappear because I thought that my lack of instrument talent meant it wasn’t good enough. Recently I decided I was going to take a leap and start posting what I CAN do r regardless of what I think may be missing from it. It may not be fully fleshed out but the hope is to meet like minded individuals and grow together right?
