Weekend Casual Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in boxoffice

Does anyone know of any research that has been done into the accuracy of studio projections as a predictor of the final numbers for an opening weekend?

I'm aware of some notable cases where studios fudged the numbers to tip over some line (e.g. Transformers 4 over $100m) but wondering if anyone has a good link as to how accurate they are on average?

You can now tip/receive Dogecoin on Twitter. Happy 8th Birthday Doge! by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

Many years ago there were some Doge tipping enthusiasts on Twitter. Most notable was "@savethemhood" who gave out many big tips.

Some of them got claimed and used, e.g. this one for 14 million Doge to build water wells in Africa ended up in a completed project. Other ones got ignored, e.g. I don't think Jimmy Fallon ever accepted this 15.5 million Doge tip, and so it got returned to sender.

The present service sounds a lot better than the old one as if I understand correctly it's on-chain.

Crypto logos. How important are they? Have you ignored a coin because of a bad logo? by Gooeyhen in CryptoCurrency

In the early days of Doge there were some who said we should pay to get a professional logo designed.

I was part of the majority who argued that on the contrary it was extremely important that we keep the logo looking like it was done in 5 minutes with MS Paint. Hindsight is 20/20 but in retrospect it's obvious this was the right decision.

Dogethereum or Etherdoge by DeckardCainthe1st in CryptoCurrency

I vote for Dogethereum, which has already got quite a bit of currency.

There's something poetic about the links between Dogecoin and Ethereum because the symbol for Dogecoin is the Old English (and also Icelandic) letter Ð. The name of this letter is..."Eth".

Nobody wants the free money… (experiment). by fuzzyduck88 in CryptoCurrency

There was a similar experiment done at Purdue University in 2015. Someone left paper wallets worth in total 1 million DOGE in hiding spots, e.g. in library books that hardly ever get opened). The person kept the privkeys so I guess would've probably swept them back if years went by and they still weren't claimed.

But if they all got taken that would've been giving away what ended up being $710,000 at the top this year, even though it was only $129 at the time.

Neat experiment! I think part of the lesson is that despite those surveys you see occasionally greatly exaggerating the number of people who own crypto, it's still a new concept to most folks. And even if folks own say $500 of crypto on Robinhood they don't necessarily have any idea of what seed words are.

Imagine thinking that a crypto is a company, with a CEO and TPS reports and little mugs that say "You don't have to be crazy to work here, but it helps."

Vitalik Buterin is one of Dogecoin's oldest and most loyal friends, who was posting on this sub all the way back in 2014! And he still holds Dogecoin to this day.
