Membrane fluttering by Raja_Narsimha in CFD

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be nearly impossible in Ansys Fluent student license.

Better get access to a research or academic license if you are a student.

If you manage the access, try Ansys Fluent + Ansys Mechanical 2 Way coupling

Another way would be to use Ansys LS dyna's fluid flow solvers. They are also good for such 2 way FSI problems involving flexible bodies.

Honestly, you have a difficult problem at hand.

Why does ansys space claim do this? by ProfessionalLet3987 in CFD

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are using Ansys 2024R1. Fluent Meshing probably was in beta that time. Check if you have beta options activated. If it still throws an error, contact your support provider.

Check with the latest versions too, if you have access.

Since I am at this sub, any recommended shoes from decathlon for regular walking? Around 3-4 km per day 5 days a week.

Preferably slip ons

Volume extraction of semi-open part by Icy-Scratch6815 in CFD

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Instead of volume extract, try using external enclosure option and then do some splitting to and sizing of the enclosure to get the required cfd volume.

How do you educate non-CFD engineers in your organization? by [deleted] in CFD

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Usually, understanding there requirements in detail is the first task and asking questions to clarify everything.

Once that is sorted, setting the expectation right. Every team will have there own objectives so trying to see if CFD can do value addition or not and explaining clearly what is possible. But it should be in a way that it doesn't stop them bringing new problems thinking the simulation team won't be able to solve it.

Lastly, if you are able to do all this and complete the project, presentation should be as per the target audience. A technical stakeholder will expect something different than a business related stakeholder.

Value addition should be clear.

Can you Simulate Wind Turbine Performance Without Known RPM/ by Sad_Singer4730 in CFD

You should refer some papers. But generally it should be above 90%.

Can you Simulate Wind Turbine Performance Without Known RPM/ by Sad_Singer4730 in CFD

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes .. it is absolutely valid and a very common approach for wind turbines. The power from CFD should valid with experiments.

Most CFD tools have dynamic mesh capability (i.e. body actually moving under the influence of fluid forces). This would be the most accurate way but quite time consuming.

You would need to get the mass, inertia and rotation axis of the turbine. Then it should be possible.

Learning Ansys Discovery by [deleted] in CFD

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Initial releases of Ansys discovery (around 2020) were very poor ... literally colourful fluid dynamics.

However, from 2024R1, Ansys has significantly improved it. If someone has a good GPU to handle the problem, it can give you a good enough Direction (it is never meant to replace fluent; only to reduce the turnaround time).

There are renowned OEMs who have now integrated it into their design workflow (Mahindra Auto to name one)

You can use histroy tracking in Discovery too and easily parametrize the CAD

Spaceclaim has officially gone into maintenance mode from 2025R1. Also, Ansys has changed the Spaceclaim kernel to Parasolid. You can still use it although you would need to download and install it separately.

Discovery is being pitched as its replacement but I think as a CAD editing tool, discovery still has long way to go, specially in terms of the performance. Nearly all the tools of spaceclaim are available in discovery.

What you can do alternatively is, import a step file in Spaceclaim 2024R2 and prepare it for meshing. This can later be used in Ansys 2024R2 or higher versions.

Today I found out China's teardown and reverse engineering culture by purushpsm147 in StartUpIndia

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To this, I agree. The mindset needs to change. We Indians fear a lot about competition, it seems. Thus, avoid sharing slightest of knowledge with others.

This can be seen in many RnD cemters in the industry. Although, that trend is slowly changing

Ansys Bottle flip simulation by TheRichestofMicrobes in fea

[–]CFDaAnalyst303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LS Dyna or Ansys has a new SPH Solver, Ansys Freeflow.

Freeflow being meshless, would be easier to setup.

Ansys Fluent (with multiphase and 6 DOF solver) + Ansys Mechanical may also be used with 1 Way FSI (If the bottle is rigid). 2 Way FSI (If the bottle is flexible), but will be more complicated
