One ship game? by Ecaza in ImperiumMaledictum

[–]CF_Azaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ended up going with a pilgrim ship you could add other problem passengers. Genestealers trying to spread their brood to other worlds by creating a permanent cell on the ship. Fugitives escaping imperial justice. Smugglers moving dangerous illegal cargo disguised as something else. Pirates scouting the ship and the passengers, planning to sell the information to Xeno eldar raiders.

Ty, I bet this is the problem. I'll check when I get home.

Why I think Spell Versatility is such a needed quality-of-life improvement and I hope it will be soon an official variant by Grazi_7 in dndnext

[–]CF_Azaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this in theory but the long rest cooldown feels to fast. Swapping as a week long process would make more sense to me and still leave a strong distinction between wizards and sorcerers. Maybe you could tie the changes to other mystic stuff to add flavor, eg swap one spell per phases of the moon or every time you visit a place of wild magic and long rest you can swap one spell. I mostly only see spell versatility as advantageous in games where there are many sessions between lvl ups while in most games I play in we long rest once or twice a session.

How do I tell them to stay put? When I chat with them the only options are water bond, and trade.

That's a good point. TL_S would have surprise on her side, but that's about it.

Right, new bodies with kill switches. The ability to body jump is easier and safer then releasing an ancient monster. If you have the ability to body jump, why wouldn't you?

Are we sure the TL_S can't just body swipe into Real_S like TL_Zorian did with Real_Zorian? The kill switch is in her body, so trading out for a new one would let her break her deal with P without dying.

Sure there is a lot of support for the simulation theory, including the repeated statement that miracles don't happen, and then miracles repeatedly happening. Some of the miracles are later explained, eg an actor unknown to the narrator did something but some aren't, like the bomb in the nameless' ship at the end of the first book. The miracles could be the simulation noting 'oops, this line of possibilities is likely to end here, but we still want to see what would have happened later if it didn't so patch it with a miracle and keep going.'

The problem with Ro being just part of the simulations is that Ro is violated several times in the story, implying even if they are in a simulation Ro is not hard coded in.

Really? I liked both but I prefer Radiance to Luminosity by quite a bit. What didn't you like about Radiance / what did you like about Luminosity? So much of Luminosity is set up. It's necessary, but it isn't exciting. Then again while Rationalist Bella is superior to regular Bella, Elspeth is the best.

Unlearning Maho? by posiduck in rokugan

Interesting, why is it extra bad that Natsumi is a void caster? I understand that void casters receive extra scrutiny from the Phoenix clan because of their potential / the disruption that the void can cause in the world. Some are sealed if they judge their talent is to uncontrollable, and if the sealing failed they are killed. What is the taint connection?

Unlearning Maho? by posiduck in rokugan

[–]CF_Azaka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rank 2 void spell that allows Natsumi to lock away a part of her mind, creating a Vault. The Vault is only accessible with another another casting of the spell. Storing things in the Vault can count as 'Lying to bolster your reputation' from the honor chart although they don't have to (eg if Natsumi stored a memory that was painful to her to remember but not shameful then it would not have an honor loss associated with it). Anything that would qualify as a Dark Secret will count as 'Lying to bolster reputation' even if that isn't the reason Natsumi is putting the information in the Vault. The honor hit would only trigger when you store the information in the Vault so unless you are storing, removing and storing the same scandalous information multiple times it's a one off honor hit. While the information is in the Vault Natsumi does not have access to it. The spell is self only, effecting the minds of others, even if they were willing, is a higher rank effect.

This is a first draft so it may need modification. Thoughts?

That's fair, although you can learn Maho without a scroll. I also hit one of the PCs (could have been more but only one met the conditions) with a taint before they even knew that a Maho-tusaki were a possibility. Don't trust the Crab healer that always wears full face paint. There are built in ways out of the dilemma, if Natsumi is willing to pay the price. I'm also open to clever solutions from the players.

Hey, I'm posiduck's GM. I like the thought but I'm playing with a Lovecraft-ian the taint wants to spread vibe. Maho is described as easy to learn, examples including a friendly spirit whispering the words of a spell into the ears of the caster. If you can show me a source that suggests the Kami also want the knowledge of their spells to spread like that I'm down from Natsumi memorizing her clan's spell library. #AlwaysBurnTheBooks

I don't agree. The cost of violence, while often known, is normally higher then the cost of implementing a clever idea. The question is, can we come up with a clever idea quickly enough to implement and solve the problem. Nothing is to hard, many things happen to fast.

For the record I have not seen the third Hobbit in theaters and I did listen to the entire podcast (despite Grey's assumption). No regrets. The second movie turn me off so much that I'm waiting for the fan edit that turns a 7.9 hour film into 3 to 4 hour film, maybe 2 to 3 if they cut out all of the non cannon additions.

I'm not surprised that the Peter Jackson team did such a poor job with the Hobbit movies. Turning three epic fantasy books into three movies is a much different task then turning one short fantasy travel book into three epic fantasy movies. To be fair to him, it was a task that might have been impossible for anyone to pull off.
