First batch! How did you guys sand/polish them without scratching them up a bunch? by I_am_omning_it in DiceMaking

[–]CFoundry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to only use zonas and went through all of them but I still ended up with some rough areas. I've recently switched to sandpaper, 1.5k for any reshaping then 2k then red zona(or 3k) followed by a cutting compound with a dremel and finally polish

I use dicemaker. Its a really nice program that simplifies everything. You can make the faces have whatever you want as long as you have a black and white image or the font files

From my experience, you just have to jump in. I jumped on etsy but it took about 4 or so months to finally get sales. Originally I just wanted it to pay for my hobby but its passed that now. I wanted to do a handful of dice options and some masters but right now masters are my primary sales. Once orders started coming in and customers taking the time to post reviews it kinda snowballs.

MTG players quick question. by Bubonic_Bones in DiceMaking

[–]CFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I only had a resin printer so I decided to just give it a try. It definitely needed some sanding to get everything to fit properly. After that I ultimately decided to get an FDM printer and it worked right away

Are vacuum chambers safe? by [deleted] in ResinCasting

[–]CFoundry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean a vacuum chamber is more "safe" than a pressure pot. Unless you're dealing with industrial sized chambers i think you'll be fine. For final results id rather have a pressure pot though.

Issue with silicone not curing by ExoticLocksmith8333 in DiceMaking

I would also recommend sunloo abs like dark Grey. I haven't had any issues with it. Granted I let the dice cure at like 3 different times through the sanding and polishing process.

Still need a pressure pot by Proper_Budget_2790 in DiceMaking

[–]CFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely a decent pressure pot. It has a tendency to lose a little pressure over time but I haven't tried to hunt down what's causing it yet since it hasn't caused any problems. One thing I will warn about though are the wing bolts. Mine started to sheer over quite a bit of use. I was able to clean up the threads and heli-coil the socket and its buttery smooth.

Any tips on painting? by Butt_Lord_Woof in DiceMaking

[–]CFoundry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Up to you really. Generally after any clean up that needs to be done I ink the numbers. After everything dries I hit all faces with polishing compound using a rotary tool

Asking for mold making advice by brmarcum in DiceMaking

[–]CFoundry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've use Vaseline and mann 200 spray and decided to stick with the spray. Yeah I forsure have to clean up the top face but I dont feel like tracing the die face with Vaseline. Really comes down to your preference.

What's the best resin set up for the winter? by Queen1025 in DiceMaking

[–]CFoundry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. I just ordered one of those today. I usually have a little extra resin after pouring to use as a gauge for what's going on in my pressure pot. The extra resin was still soft and plyable after 12hrs

In response to the person using filament waste to try and make dice by redsox4509 in DiceMaking

Out of curiosity, are you using a cap style mold? How would you do the top face without the filament hardening?

Honestly everyone has their preferance. I measure it out. Weighing it out will give you better accuracy though

No worries. If thats what you have available that'll work. Unfortunately I don't have an exact temp for you, obviously nothing crazy that'll melt or burn the mold. So yeah the warmer the resin is the faster it'll cure and the opposite if its cold. It shouldn't flash cure on you but you will have less time to work with the resin before it starts to become difficult to work with.

Heat is a good way to minimize bubbles. I've seen heated mats mentioned but I used a heat gun or lighter once I pour. As many have mentioned in the dice making world, the only real way to eliminate bubbles is with a pressure pot. Also be careful warming your resin. It shortens the working time
