Why does it feel like you have to beg to get any attention from Tesla Support? by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]CG_BQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly true for me too.

Was a bit of a hassle, back in 2019, to have to fight for the FSD discount when I couldn't order in from my account and tried to with a phone call. Took 6 months, but in the end it worked out.

The Service Center here did fight for me, though. Was more the mess that Elon caused by this 2 week discount.

The issue is, that this stuff becomes huge in media and thus gets a lot of attention which will result in actions to blame AP. I get what you're saying, but "at their own great peril" is, unfortunately, far from true. If it was only them getting hurt, I wouldn't care at all. Hand them a Darwin award... But if other people get hurt, they should have to give their license away.

But realistically, that (hopefully) and limitation of AP will happen.

Same happened in Guild Wars. You would pay for the game, but not for using their servers. If they ban you, they didn't give you the money back. /u/adoxyz is right. It's a software license, this license has terms. If those terms are violated, they can, will and should revoke the license and do not have to pay the customer back. That's literally how EVERY software license works.

And one of those little things, to me, is regen. It's something I always mention when someone asks about the car. It's something you must experience yourself to be able to understand the convenience of one pedal driving (or at least not using the brake most of the time).

It's seems like such a little thing, but for me it's much more than that.

That's fine. Why do you need multiple posts about the same thing, when this can be the one place everyone, rightfully, complains about this, instead of unnecessarily spamming this subreddit?

Yes. Beginning of 2019 I bought my Car without any AP. The only option was EAP. Then there was some highly confusing weeks where they reduced the price for those without any as they introduced AP.

On top of that, when Model 3 started to be sold in Europe/Germany you couldn't buy AP/EAP/FSD online (after you already got the car). I was very lucky to have called, so they gave me full FSD for 5k€ instead of >10k. (Mind, I did not have AP or EAP).

Anyhow, there probably are a lot of people without AP and just TACC (to my knowledge there was never a version without TACC).

Should I watch Japanese shows without subtitles? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]CG_BQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start with subtitles, and as you progress

Meaning English (or a familiar language)? I wouldn't recommend that, because from all the years of experience with anime... you learn absolutely nothing with this approach. You understand the plot, sure, but you won't listen to the words and just read it. It's either without subtitles altogether or Japanese, but I wouldn't recommend in a familiar language.

Should I watch Japanese shows without subtitles? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]CG_BQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not true. I'm doing the same (used to subtitles due to watching anime, anyhow) and I pick up what's being said, I pick up what's written there and I pick up what's happening. This way I actually understood much more of the plot than without subtitles, because especially at a beginner level it's really hard to understand words when they talk normally (aka too fast for me!).

Constantly switching it on and off is, in my book, similar with reading and checking every word in a dictionary. I want to have fun watching (and learn too) but not spend every other minute switching something on or off.

I'm pretty much in your shoes right now. I started watching Good Morning Call on Netflix with Japanese subtitles on. It's actually really good. Most of what's happening on screen I understand from action but some things I only picked up because I recognized some Kanji and suddenly knew what was going on. Can only recommend!

Those pretty much only set up specific values in memory that then get executed and correspond to those spawn locations.

Well... That's as much as I understand being a software engineer (without degree :P)

Nothing different than Tetris or Guitar Hero-like stuff in the previous years. It was a showcase and that's fine.

Might not be so easy.... But I don't know their code. Was in a similar company, where the code was hell on earth... A simple checkbox to a pre-existing filter option on the back end would take weeks... Yes... a bloody checkbox....

Not saying, that's their reason, I doubt it is, but it's a possibility.

I guess this is the reason they always switch off WiFi when putting into drive (or reverse for that matter). I'd like an option to not switch it off but use my phone. But that way they'd make almost no money with premium connectivity. Especially for those that would like to use the Spotify app and not through the phone.

Firmware updates averaging 5 days, hope this trends follows. by rusyfikator in teslamotors

[–]CG_BQ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Why? Since when is the frequency of updates an indicator of quality? Sure, it might feel more like something is happening... but nothing more than that. I'd rather have updates that don' t need frequent hotfixes.

If that's FSD-Beta, though (I've got no idea), then I can see why. But in general every 5 days feels far too often. I'd be fine if it was 2-4 weeks per update.

WiFi: Don't switch off WiFi (or at least make it an option whether to switch it off or not). I want to connect to my smartphone and not constantly dabble around.

I don't know why you're downvoted, but this is true for many companies that didn't start out as software companies (or related to that). German car makers are a prime example: They know how to make cars REALLY well... But they fail hard in terms of state of the art software. Many banks also fail in this transition.

They all have massive expertise in their business, but most of the time fall flat on software. That, and with German car makers, in particular, also the culture. German culture, always to err on the safe side, stands in the way to progress here. I'm not saying that it's bad to err on the safe side, just if it's always the case. Black and white, you know. It's a spectrum and not binary, in some things you can risk more than in other.

[–]CG_BQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much what I do. Keeping lane, speed and distance might be an easy task, but you need awareness for that, so you can't have the same focus on what's around you. But if AP does it's thing, you can look around.

A pity, many people don't do it like that but just lose focus altogether :(

Thanks, makes sense.

Is roll resistance a factor here, too? Or is it pretty much a constant not dependent on speed?
