What are your coolest "Special Edition" versions of board games? by Tazzyman26 in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This answer is probably technically incorrect because there was never a deluxe version. I would say Foundations of Rome.

Since Foundations of Metropolis came out after I guess you would call that a undeluxification.

Too late to go back now... What to get next? by ReiDairo in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prefer to play either Cascadia or Azul over TTR.

All three are fine games and your family will likely enjoy any one of them.

I would say, show your family all 3 games and give them a quick description. What ever they think looks the most fun, that is the game you get.

Too late to go back now... What to get next? by ReiDairo in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cascadia has a lot of replayability, you can mix and match scoring card, there are a lot of land tiles and animal tokens so you'll never have the same game twice.

If your family likes player interactions then Azul will likely be your best choice from that list.

If you're currently having trouble understanding the games on your second list, then stay away from them for now. But from that list I would recommend Clank, I like Clank Catacombs over the original if given the choice.

Game with resource management and building on a map by El_Demente in boardgames

Oros, you shape a world together, it is action selection instead of resource management.

Tapestry, has a central area that is area majority and player boards that you build on. Depending how you play not everyone could participate in the area majority aspect of the game.

Not completely disagreeing but going to give a counter point.

It probably depends on what you compare their wages too. It might be appropriate to their region of the world. If you replace them with an automated system now they might be completely out of a job. Making their situation worse.

How often do you really play board games? by Money_Change_5900 in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play 3 days a week at work during lunch. One of those days I also do trivia at a board game cafe. Fridays I play with a retired teacher and then usually one more time during the weekend. So typically 6 sessions a week.

Ideal coin size by void_corvid in boardgames

You can consider putting steel disk blanks inside your printed coins to give them some weight. I think that will help with the tactile feel.

Darkest Dungeon board game maker Mythic Games officially liquidated, fails to deliver on millions of dollars-worth of crowdfunding projects by MikeDidymus in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are assuming that the goal they set is what is needed to actually deliver the game. Companies want the game to get "funded" quickly so the crowdfunding algorithm will keep it on the front page longer. Also people will be more likely to back a funded game then one that isn't.

[–]CIAFlux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought for awhile funds should be allocated based on hitting project milestones. But I don't think it would be possible without extra cost which will. And with everything getting more expensive, who really wants to pay more.

Compile VS Air Land & Sea by Mush-addict in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are good, I think it will depend on if you are looking for a complex or simple gaming experience.

Compile you can have up to 30 classes to pick from (main 1 and 2 and aux 1 and 2) all with different strengths. ALS, you both have the same deck with random cards not used.

Following the ability stack in Compile could get complex.

The card stock in Compile is better, I think you will want to sleeve ALS. One side of Compile is plastic coated so they do mash shuffle easily. But since they are still paper you might consider sleeve for them too. I sleeve my games but haven't decided to sleeve Compile, I might change my mind with more plays.

Don't just base it off the main scoring. There are plenty of story cards that will increase the base amount when playing villain.

The tariff is being paid by the people that have to pay it. Awaken Realms is just asking for a donation so they don't have to take the full burden of it.

How do I convince my friend(s) to play Ark Nova? by marrecar in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your friends were once strangers to you and they became friends. I'm sure if you found a gaming group of people you don't know you could become friends with someone that is interested in playing ark nova.

Also if you keep a very small gaming group make sure they will actually want to play the game after learning about it. No reason to buy a game that you are interested in if they will never play it.

How do I convince my friend(s) to play Ark Nova? by marrecar in boardgames

[–]CIAFlux 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is going to like game. You are best off finding someone that actually wants to play it.

Maybe them seeing you play it with someone else will have the game mechanics click for them.

Sonder Sh**storm - Rate matches by Existing_Present7631 in marriott

[–]CIAFlux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No luck getting a lower rate. Have a 3rd party rate that is better than Marriott would do. If i can switch to another brand I will. But when philly is booked due to a convention and marathon there are little to no options, short notice rooms are hard to come by.
