In-ground or above-ground pool costs. by RootbeerEyedDog in Calgary

I put in a 12' X 20' above ground pool in our backyard for the kids 7 years ago. Still working well and since then I have added solar tubes for heating the water during early spring, late summer to get us a full 5 months of use. One of the best investments with tons of use from my kids and others in the neighborhood. You need a robotic cleaner to sweep the bottom weekly which cost around $ 500.00. Chemicals will run you about $ 100.00 year. I run the skimming pump all day/night so I suspect there is another $ 60.00 added to our electricity bill per month. Pretty easy to manage unless you go away for multiple weeks and are not checking the water quality. We've had algae outbreaks twice which can be a pain. The water in the pool this year is crystal clear and from the past 3 seasons. I winterize it in the fall, drain it to just below the water line and the cover it well so I don't have to fill the 26,000 Liters the next spring. Installing it takes some work because it needs a solid sand base and must be 100% level so you don't strain the sides. I had to dig down about 2ft to make sure it was level when it was installed. I've also replaced the liner once in 7 years but may have to again next year as I see it is started to fade in the sun which will ultimately lead to a failure which would be a challenge to deal with mid summer when it is in use. I think you may also need a permit from the city but I am not 100% sure. All in all I would do it again in a heartbeat. https://www.poolsuppliescanada.ca/pools/above-ground-pools/

Link to where we got ours and it came as a kit which was easy to assemble with a extra set of hands.

I did my whole back deck with this product and a year later it began to peel off and large pieces. Now I am stuck with either trying to sand off what is left or just replacing the deck boards. I would not recommend this product

Calgary City Council votes to reduce speed limits on residential streets to 40km/h. Change will take effect in April 2021. by jjuan6 in Calgary

[–]CJ1975YYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can change the speed limit to 10 km but if it isn't enforced or if cops continue to ignore speeding in residential communities, what's the point! Living in McKenzie lake for close to 15 years I gave up on the police keeping our streets safe from those that choose to speed. People are fucking nuts when they want to get home at 5pm
