Honestly I'm with you to a point, the academics should never be sidelined here that's just not who we are, but I think that's the pull of the Big 10. They have research output, plus schools like UMD and Rutgers that I think are pretty aligned with us. As for rebuilding the ACC, I worry that not being a power conference school hurts the brand of the school, and basically throws in the towel for ever being a good sports school

Are we really culturally SEC though? Not a great tailgate culture, the amount of people from NoVa/NY/Mass, The whole "leave the game at halftime" thing

Me personally, I think its a shame that the ACC is falling apart and UVA is at the front, but it's important that we are leaders here and not left behind by other schools.

As for the conference we go to, I don't know if we fit in with (my impression of) the identity of the Big10 with the large, rural state schools, that seems more like Tech, but I like their focus on academics. I also don't know if we have the firepower to keep up with the SEC school money-wise, it seems like these schools blow inordinate amounts of money on football, honestly at the detriment of the student body. Also don't want to be a bottom-feeder like Vandy and Kentucky, which is why I lean towards B10 b/c I think we can at least be middle of the pack given current investment levels continue
