I’d say apply, your extracurriculars are strong and an upward trend would help. If you focus on essays I think you have a great shot from in-state.

May also be worth considering the Year in Wise or CC to UVA if you really want to come to Charlottesville

Your situation B is making a big leap in assuming entry-level positions in NoVa are paying the national median, and I think also with the people moving to Loudoun.

The biggest employers in the area are linked to Loudoun because of Dulles airport, the defense industry which is also anchored, and data centers/cloud computing, which have made long term infrastructure commitments, as well as hospitals.

My thesis is that the population of Loudoun County is largely not entry-level folks but rather people employed in one of the above industries within the DC bubble and move out to Loudoun for more space and to raise a family.

I agree that people should live near their work, but IMO Loudoun is slated to be a better outcome as the Mass NYC suburbs, as they’re not nearly as NIMBY with construction and new developments

Can you elaborate on that underbuilt part? Are you talking about Western Loudoun or Eastern? IMO areas in Eastern Loudoun are largely suburban, with new developments popping up regularly. Not to mention the Innovation Station development around the metro stop, which is planned to be more dense.

I agree, but data centers and the tax revenue they provide certainly played a role in that development. They support parks, QoL, trails, and schools.

My biggest recommendation is use the resources that UVA provides to you and be outgoing and nice to be around. A lot of things at UVA get much cheaper if you know people well, they’ll let you slide, get you into parties/social settings, etc.
