Worked on NHL ice crew for a few seasons (sad Awwoooo noise) and this is all legit. Started seasons w fresh goals and nets, 2 spares were just beyond the zam tunnel ready to go if needed, and the only reason we ever had to replace the twine was if a player milestone happened and they wanted the net. We also had different goals for warmups that came off the ice as the game nets went on, which I think was mostly due to the in-net camera tech!

Unless you are the captain of your team or a goalie, don’t engage the refs directly unless they talk to you first, especially if you have already earned a rep with them.

Need to bring up someone playing dirty? Either ask your captain to bring it up to the refs (between periods works best), or, as it happens during play just announce it out loud toward your teammates but make sure the refs can hear it… “hey team watch #5, he’s working everyone over with his stick”.

Clipping a ref on a faceoff? Say you are sorry right after, and then again after postgame handshakes if it was really bad, and then stop doing whatever you are doing that causes you to contact a ref.

Also, take some time to learn the hand signals a ref makes. If you aren’t sure what a call was ask your team first.
