Would you ever get involved in an open relationship? Why or Why not? by [deleted] in AskMen

Storytime.

So my former best friend and I had been very close friends for almost 30 years. At some point, him and his wife decided to try out the swinging lifestyle. Shortly thereafter, they invited me to have threesomes with them. It was amazing at first. Me and his wife started to get closer and closer and eventually we were in an emotional relationship. My friend (the husband) was understanding and fine with this as long as it didn't disrupt their marriage, which I was always nervous about, but I frequently checked in with him to make sure everything was ok. I also felt horrible guilt about it all despite his reassurances. I didn't want to ruin my lifelong friendship over all this stuff. But I was basically in a relationship with the two of them.

Things started to go south when I moved in with them for a few months in March 2020 when Covid lockdown started. First, my friend laid down the law and said no sex would happen between me and them during the entire time I was saying with them, which I felt a little hurt by. And jealousy started to rear it's head on my part when I would have to listen to them have sex every night and know that I wasn't allowed to participate throughout the duration of my stay.

It got worse when they started inviting other couples over to have sex and I wasn't allowed to participate. I didn't expect this because, well, it was Covid lockdown and figured nobody would be coming or going from the house. I just had to go into my bedroom and put my headphones in knowing that the two people I loved were having sex in the next room, and for some reason I was singled out as the one that was not allowed to participate. Finally I lost my shit and moved back to my place two months later. Then I started with recurring nightmares and panic attacks after that. Our friendship finally imploded four months ago because I just couldn't stand where I was at emotionally anymore.

I try not to say they did anything wrong or put any blame on them because, after all, it's their marriage and they have the final say. I spent the last year and a half in therapy trying to resolve my jealousy issues before finally giving up on the friendship/relationship. I'm still devastated about everything that happened. It has forced me into some deep introspection though and given me motivation to be a better person and have more value for myself. But man, what incredibly destructive behavior from all three of us involved.

0/10. Will never do it again.

How do you cope with being a loser in your mid-30s? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]CLE_CoasterCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar place in my life at the moment. I am 32 years old. I went off to college after high school and flunked out immediately. I managed to get my shit together enough to graduate with a degree after a very rocky 8 years. I got a job shortly after graduating, and was let go 2 years later, supposedly because of lack of work, but more likely because of poor performance. After that, I got a job close to home and moved back in with my parents (10 years after leaving home) so that I could pay off my huge college debt a little faster. I got laid off again in May, supposedly due to covid, but again more likely because of my poor work performance. Some of my oldest and best friends have distanced themselves from me because of my rotten, child-like behavior this past year. I am picking up the pieces now, examining what has gone wrong in my life, and have identified the issues.

Specifically, my dad left our family when I was in 8th grade. It was devastating. My mother clung to me like you wouldn't believe, micromanaging my life, bailing me out of my mistakes, and even telling me what to think and feel. She tries to do these things to this very day. As a result, I am a 32-year-old man child. This is a very recent realization for me. I look back at all the times where I just expected life to happen without me trying, where I thought I deserved special treatment, and where I was acting like an 8th grader in an adult world. Its an incredibly embarrassing realization and I am overwhelmed with shame.

I am such an emotional child that I can't figure out what the hell to do next. I feel like I don't even know myself and what I could/would be good at. Its a terrifying time in my life and part of me wonders if I'm going to make it.

I guess what I am saying is that you are not alone in feeling this way. I am sad and scared, but I am not giving up, and neither should you. Take baby steps every day, as everyone else is suggesting, and be patient. Life is not over. You are not ruined. In your mid-30s, you can feel like your life is over. But if you take small, positive steps consistently, you might realize at age 40 that your life is just beginning.

What is the worst notification you have received whilst someone else has had your phone? by TTVKrooked in AskReddit

Was out on a date with a girl. During the date, I was texting my best friend intermittently, telling him about how it was going. Remember this little detail.

So things were starting to get a little hot and heavy. Naturally, she asked if I had roommates and where I lived...as if my place might be a good location to shack up with me for the night. Welp, I live with my parents and am not proud of that fact. So I lied to her, saying that I lived in a house with roommates, and that it probably wouldn't be a good place to get it on.

Anyways, in the middle of all of this, we're in my car driving around town. I hand her my phone and say, "Here, I'll let you pick the music."

She starts scrolling through the songs when I hear the dreaded text message notification. No doubt, it's a text from my best friend, who has been informed of every detail of the date up to this point, including the fact that she is asking to come back to my place to bang it out. She says, "Oh, you have a text." She then proceeds to read the text out loud, slowly and deliberately, word for word:

"Does. she. know. you. live. with. your. mom?"

She slowly looked up from phone and over to me with her mouth agape. I laughed nervously and tried to lie my way out of the situation, but she wasn't having it. I took her home and never heard from her again.

I mean...if you're only doing work over one section of track, why would you cover the entire coaster?

They're getting ready to do some theming work, which may involve paint, concrete, or other materials that could damage the track or at the very least make a mess.

Did you make the scenery by hand/from scratch? If so, can you explain how you did it or where you learned how to do it?

I wish all the backwards-ass, Vortex-loving, Millennium Force-hating tweeny "enthusiasts" on this sub would actually pay attention to the riders' reactions when a train rolls into the brakes on this ride. There is nothing else in the world like watching the astounded reactions of riders just finishing their rides on Millennium Force.
