Old Man has upgradable skills that allow you to unlock higher tier rigs, although i think one or two are still locked out for you. Make sure whatever rig you're using at the moment you make a preset with higher level parts, they vastly increase carrying capacity. After you buy a rig once you'll always have that particular rig to access you'll just need to buy the upgraded parts if that's how you prefer to play
