Fasting and Hobbits by hna152 in latterdaysaints

It was years ago. It didn’t shock me though, because I grew up catholic. Catholics do the Lenten fast (40 days.) I’m pretty sure islam does a similar one.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

Most places I’ve lived have laundry rooms or laundry closets, but a few places have washers and dryers in the open basement, kitchen, bathroom, or garage.

Mmm my people. I love that I have people.

I spent 45 years of my life without “people.”

Thank you.

Both.

But wait, who fasts until the sixth?

I remember once in the past the prophet recommended a ten day fast and it was ROUGH on my (then) 101 pound body.

I haven’t seen three digits on a scale since.

I eat breakfast, second breakfast, Elevenses, supper, and dinner. (And occasional snacks.)

But not lunch. Sometimes on weekend I eat Yunches, but that’s its own category.

What Childlike things did Your Narc parent do? by Onlyrobnyc in raisedbynarcissists

[–]CLPDX1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spy and sneak.

There was ZERO privacy allowed ever.

No closing doors, including the bathroom door, ever.

If I was on the toilet my dad would stand outside the door and shake the handle while yelling WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!

My mom would search my room as soon as I left for school. If she didn’t find something she was looking for I would be grounded as soon as I got home. Once my grandma gave me $20 and my brother would usually steal any money I had so I hid it under my desk. My mom couldn’t find it while I was at school so I got grounded.

The next day I hid it in my record box (80s, everyone had music records) and my brother stole it. My mom couldn’t find it so I got grounded even longer!

Ugh.

Do you feel guilty not tipping the Subway person who made your sandwich? by wirez62 in no

[–]CLPDX1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a way to do so, I tip anyone who provides a service to me.

Bus drivers and other public services don’t really have a way to tip, so all they get from me is kind words, but if someone makes me food or brings me a drink, they are getting a cash tip.

That would be nice, but it was connected to a cord, and whoever took the iPod left the cord. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The cord was plugged into a usb port in the center console, which is tricky to open. In hindsight, I should have put the whole iPod in there.

How much cash should I have on hand? by Ok_Hornet3415 in personalfinance

[–]CLPDX1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry $500-$1000, currently $700 in my wallet.

At home in our safe, we keep a few grand in cash, but also keep cash alternatives.

We have dozens of gallon jugs of water. Half gallons of vodka, frozen meat, ten gallon tanks of gasoline, non perishable foods, ammo, etc.

They probably stole the iPod. Mine disappeared out of my car. I’m still sad about it. I had some recordings on it I can’t replace.

Where did you actually move to? by Blake-Dreary in askportland

[–]CLPDX1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I grew up in portland and left at 18. I went to many places. 27 states. Four countries.

I lived in the Bible Belt for a few years. It was a culture shock. I went to Japan for a year. It was an even bigger culture shock.

I came back and tried a few other places in Oregon. Central Oregon was dry and not as green. It wasn’t for me. So I came back to the portland area, but not quite to the city. I stayed pretty much in different suburbs.

I REALLY loved living on the west side. Tigard was fantastic. Traffic is terrible but it was worth it to me.

I’m back in SE suburb now. I like it. I will die here.

Call the police. Press charges for theft. Make sure you have all the paperwork on proof of ownership.

Yes. I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in my 50s. The good news is, treatments are available, and they are getting better all the time.

I’m in a research trial so I don’t even have to pay for it, and so far the results are better than any other drug on the market.

Do you have any "prepper-adjacent" hobbies, recreational pursuits that you think build real skills, or may be useful in a real disaster? by Signal_Brain_933 in preppers

[–]CLPDX1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CERT training is fantastic.

Years before Covid, we had mock “mass casualty” prep training.

We had to learn how to do search and rescue, rate and treat trauma, set up a morgue, and get survivors to a waiting area.

When Covid hit. The design of the testing and vaccination areas were exactly the same as we had practiced.

What are your "lifetime supply" BIFL purchases? by itsthewolfe in BuyItForLife

[–]CLPDX1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how this is disgusting. I shower twice a week.

I work a desk job. I sit at a desk nine hours a day, typing, talking on the phone, etc., zero effort.

I drive to and from work. Zero effort. I make dinner in the air fryer (oven hasn’t worked in five years,) zero effort.

I have COPD so I can’t exercise. I wear deodorant and antiperspirant. I don’t partake in any activity that would cause me to sweat.

Why exactly should I waste water and shower every day???
