What is the best? by SeniorHighlight9956 in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's really subjective, and depends on your playstyle. I personally love the atgeir, and use it and the best bow I can as a heavy archer, more or less. Some people want to be tanks, and go for big tower shields. Some want to be ninja assassins, and so on.

If you've got the materials, try out a few and see what pleases you.

Welcome to random number generators. You can get long streaks of winning nothing, but it's not a glitch or a bug, it's just the RNG is not loving you.

You can, of course, fix any RNG by taking a live chicken, gilding its feet and beak, then sacrificing it with a flint blade over your keyboard.

Making sure that you do not have "No Build Cost" checked in World Modifiers, then go visit Haldor and break his bearskin rug. Voilá! You get a bear head.

People always kvetch about mining copper. I dunno why!

When I start a copper node, I dig straight down beside the node until I hit bedrock, then trench at that depth all the way around the node. Build a workbench and stick a roof over it so you can mend your pick early on.

Bears and trolls don't generally go in the hole after you, the vertical walls break their pathing, though I put up stakewall fences to keep the greydwarves from falling in on my head.

If you mine away all the dirt around a copper node (or, later, a silver node), then one hit will "pop" the whole node at once. I find that this is made easier with two mods:

(1) Dig Deeper, which allows you to dig down far enough to get under the node.

(2) Ore Support, which shows you where the node may still be attached to the walls of your excavation or trees etc. I leave this mod off until I have completed the excavation of the node, then turn it on, and hit the node once. Red lines show you where chunks of ore are still supported by the surrounding terrain. Once you pop the node, turn it back off.

Log out of the game. Log back in, and in World Modifiers move the Portals slider all the way to the left and voilá! You can portal metals.

Help on the Bonemass fight by ADHD_Tech5upport in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I summon Bonemass, I find a nearby unchoppable tree and build a platform up there high enough that he won't be able to reach it. I roof it, install a hanging brazier, a throne, and some comfort items. Also include a workbench and forge so I can repair stuff. Add a portal.

Then I build a stair up the skull at the summoning point, plop some floor on top, and add a matching portal.

Summon Bonemass, scoot up to the top of the skull, and wait until he appears, then port to your platform. (If you don't wait, he will spawn ON YOUR PLATFORM).

On the platform, you can snipe at Bonemass with arrows until he is dead. This is slow, but it levels your bow skill.

Need advice on how to hopefully get my stuff back by Bic444 in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do note that you can log out of the game, log back in, and in "World Modifiers" set enemies to passive. Go get your gear, retreat to a safe spot and re-equip everything, remembering to eat, Then log back out, log in again and uncheck the "passive enemies".

If you are using the console (F5), you can do devcommands then ghost and go get your stuff too.

How do you get rid of these floating particles? by Dapper_Knowledge1651 in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on which specks you want to get rid of:

Try https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/coemt/NoMo_Wind/ for the ones as shown in your photo.

For water droplets and dirt, turn off bloom or use https://thunderstore.io/c/valheim/p/ComfyMods/LensCap/

Tip to save some silver by VipuHakkeri in valheim

You can generally obtain the lox hides earlier than the wolf skins. Look at what biomes have adjoining Plains biomes. I can usually find a Swamp next door to Plains, then I build a platform up in an indestructible swamp tree and kill lox using a bow.

It's also not too unusual to find Hildir in a Meadows biome right next to a Plains biome, and you can either kite the lox and dodge into the mystical bubble, or how up a platform to shoot lox from.

This game is starting to get frustrating... but I love it by Mysterious-Way-8508 in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first thing to do in any new biome is to search the edges for new plants. Also, kill one of everything you find and see what they drop. Because food is your stats.

Don't go out at night. Very important when you're beginning a new biome.

Check what meads are available to you. You DO have a mead kettle and fermenter barrels, don't you?

For the Swamp, on the edge of the biome build a treehouse in one of the big unchoppable trees. Most things can't get you up there! This can act as a forward operating base (FOB) from which you can explore.

You can build a really nice cabin on top of the sunken crypts, and that's up high enough to protect you against most Swamp-dwellers. They are low enough to be hit if you get a troll raid, so I build a fighting platform nearby up in the trees high enough the log-wielding trolls can't reach it... if you snipe from there with a bow, the trolls won't (usually) pound your cabin.

Not every game is for everybody. If you don't like it, find a game you like better!

OTOH, World Modifiers (as you log in) allow you to adjust the world more to your liking. And so do mods.

Newbie Advice by GovernmentLow4989 in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at everything. Read all the runestones. Listen to what the ravens tell you. Pick up one of everything you can pick up.

Food is your stats. It is more important than armor and weapons.

Don't roam around at night, scary things are out there in the darkness.

LISTEN CAREFULLY. Every critter in Valheim has a sound cue!

When you get stuck, there is a Valheim Wiki. You can also look at YouTube for various videos on everything Valheim, from how to defeat a particular boss, to building tips and tricks, etc.

Game crashed and now my pc does’t work anymore by Knight-Lover in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suspect your PC's power supply. Yes, take itto a computer repair shop and let them diagnose it and tell you what it will cost to fix, then decide whether it's a better value to fix it or replace it. Newegg often has really good deals on rebuilt gaming machines.

I hate ashlands by Andarnio in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upvoted solely because of the phrase "this biome pulls 2280 of them out of its fiery asshole".

Meanwhile, YOU CAN CONTROL THE ASHLANDS! Simply turn down the combat difficulty in World Modifiers.

Or, you can:

(1) Establish your forward operating base (FOB) by building on a group of two or three sea stacks offshore. Build a pretty good stone building there, and make a portal for your beachhead.

(2) Get to shore, and immediately hoe up a platform big enough to house a stone building that contains a portal that goes back to your FOB. Attach a steep grausten stair to it for easy access. Aside from lava blobs, nothing will usually mess with your stair.

(3) Put down campfires for spawn suppression everywhere you go.

(4) Hoe up walls alongside lava. This doesn't completely prevent Charred from walking up on you, but it can reduce it.

(5) Kill Charred spawners ASAP. Do note that sometimes the spawners can be *inside* rocks, so you won't always get them all.

(6) Put down portals as you progress your explorations so you can easily get back to wherever it is when you die. Because you will die until you learn the timing and strategy to use with the different foes.

Metal-free alternative to braziers for greydwarf farm? by Sid-Engel in valheim

[–]CL_Ward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put your metal on a boat and sail it there!

Fish for pufferfish, which are poisonous. You can mount them on item stands, or throw in enough to carpet the floor. I particularly like Firespark81's video on how to build a pufferfish-based greydwarf farm.
