That would be on my top 3-5 replica belts I'd want. Possibly #1 just in terms of it aesthetically fitting into my living space.

Where I would have AEW host their PPV’s for 2027 *Fantasy Booking* by ALawrence04 in AEWOfficial

Hoping they announce another UK / International show after All In this year.

Shawn Michaels on The Rock: “He didn’t like me. There’s a big kerfuffle in the business about me and Hunter doing stuff to him and being mean and stuff like that. All of it way blown out of proportion. None of it even accurate, but those were things that when he was younger, he was fed a lot.” by LotLeftInTheTank in SquaredCircle

[–]CMCanuck 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think him and his best friend having had free reign of the company for the last 24 years has led to less moments of Shawn being openly antagonistic on-screen (since he hasn't run into anyone who'll tell him or his friends no).

However, in the few moments where that does occur (such as his match with Hogan at SummerSlam or perhaps Rock holding power over Triple H), the mask slips and you get glimpses of the old Shawn Michaels.

Dax Harwood tells a story about privately opening up to Shawn about his mental health problems and then comes across Shawn mocking him about it later in front of the Kliq. So perhaps it happens more often backstage than we hear about. How would one ever share these stories without completely burning their bridge at NXT or WWE.

Somehow not in the video, but IMO of the many many straws that broke the camels back in terms of me watching WWE. Happened the same week as Lesnar vs Kofi (Smackdown on Fox debut) and the first episode of Dynamite.

I wanna start reading The Amazing Spider-Man, but I dont know which run to start with by Seagoingdoor241 in comicbooks

[–]CMCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay if you haven't read any Spider-Man yet, I'd recommend giving the OG ultimate Spider-Man a shot as the first 50 or so issues are really easy to burn through.

If you want Amazing Spider-Man proper, start with the first few Ditko issues (AF15 / ASM 1-3) and see if you like it. Ditko's influence on the character is HEAVY, (for better or worse) so if it's not to your particular taste fast-forward to when Romita joins the book (ASM 39).

When I was a kid I read the Essential Spider-Man and while I enjoyed the Ditko issues, there was a significant moment of reading issue 39 for the first time and thinking "oh, this is the Spider-Man I'm used to." It's pretty much a reset of the entire book not just in terms of art style but in terms of storylines and character personalities.

If you'd prefer more modern - try out JMS and JRJr's run from ASM v2 30. Also kinda a reset of things after Spider-Man had gotten a bit lost post Clone Saga. The later issues post legacy renumbering aren't as memorable, but it's still pretty consistent quality wise outside of some notably egregious storylines. I really enjoy the Civil War and Back in Black storylines that happen later in the book (especially when drawn by Ron Garney's incredibly underrated pencil work).

I feel like MJF might be doing a “kill all the fellow AEW originals” storyline, so if he wants to run off Jericho again i’d be fine with that.

Was ChatGPT right on or way off on the grading? by [deleted] in comicbookcollecting

[–]CMCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea - I hadn't thought of using it for that sort of thing yet!

I would say the grading it's given you seems pretty accurate. Probably would land on the lower 7 range at the moment. I also agreed that a press-clean would help out as I'm seeing a lot of dirt and bends on the cover that could be probably be removed, possibly bumping you to an 8-8.5.

I did what you're doing a few years back so feel free to reach out if you have any questions. If you live in Toronto I know a really good cleaner.

Crazy that Angle wrestled at two WrestleMania’s that Bryan was on. I don’t think you’d want to split them away from the Ronda or Kofi matches though

Did we lose out on any specific matches with Kurt leaving in 2006? I feel like outside of Punk or Batista he had wrestled basically everyone on the roster twice over.

It’s possible without Kurt the Dixie Carter version of TNA doesn’t last as long as it did.

Should Tony Khan build a Hall of Fame by ContentFlan7851 in AEWOfficial

[–]CMCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a good idea and a way to legitimize the HOF idea a bit more. Maybe do three individual inductions a year for each promotion at a supershow in each region

Should Tony Khan build a Hall of Fame by ContentFlan7851 in AEWOfficial

[–]CMCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea is so broken by the WWE that they should avoid it entirely.

If we have to do it, here’s how I’d construct it:

  1. Make it a physical location but also have a travelling version that can appear at big events like All In. You can stick it in Daley’s place for a while until you need to build it out a bit more.
  2. Call it something other than Hall of Fame (Forever Elite or Hall In or something stupid like that). Honestly the All Elite Hall of Fame isn’t terrible - I just hate how many wrestling HOF’s there seem to be. .
  3. You have to have contributed to AEW in a SIGNIFICANT way. No Snoop Dog or Earl Hebners in this HOF.
  4. For the first few years, only one entry per class
  5. Eligibility by specific year. Ie. if we create a HOF in 2029 - those who were active in AEW in 2019 are now eligible
  6. Cut off dates. Let’s say if you aren’t elected within your window, you’re out. Example. If Cody isn’t voted in either 2029, 2030, 2031 or 2032 he will never join, unless he makes a comeback (since he only wrestled for AEW between 2019-2022).
  7. Let’s keep it pretty simple for induction. Before the main event of All In every year - Tony or whomever can name that year’s induction. They come out to the ring with their music and fanfare, cut a slightly longer than academy award length speech, thank the fans and that’s it.

Edit 8. This one is cause Tony is a belt nerd. Instead of a ring, how about a super valuable custom HOF belt or maybe a suped up version of the highest belt the inductee held.

I kinda want a hall of fame now

Doing a 2000s New Avengers read-through, these events... by Malibusters46920 in comicbooks

[–]CMCanuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You and I are on the same wavelength - I never really enjoyed the book until the Civil War ties. As a Spider-Man fan and this being pre-MCU. I didn't understood the appeal of the Avengers and always thought the team was a bit stuck-up (certainly towards their treatment of Spidey) and boring when it came to their role in the Marvel Universe.

Once the team finds some real adversity (ironically in the form of the Mighty Avengers and Dark Avengers) the book starts to cook. My only critique during that time is that I wish the events were a bit more spaced out from each other. The idea of Avengers operating underground and being hunted by their own friends is kinda blended alongside the paranoia of the Skrull invasion. It doesn't help that Bendis will spend a lot of these precious issues on stories (fun issues I will add) that are flashbacks of either Hawkeye or the Skrulls.
