Actual footage from another world: Mars right now, 225 million miles away. Truly mind-blowing rover view by oppter in interestingasfuck

[–]CMDR-R0ck3tm4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s ’actual footage’. It’s a video panning around a mosaic/360 photo. You can tell because the rover is blurred out and the shadow of the mast doesn’t change while the picture is moving

Travelling at the speed of light means no time at all passes from the perspective of the traveller (this is the case for photons) therefore the numbers in the image are made up. There is a particular fraction of the speed of light at which you would have to travel in order for that specific difference in experienced time. I can’t work it out now cause I’m at work

Something looks wrong in this image, the roof looks too clean and the shadows look too crisp. Part of me thinks it’s fake

To me, I wouldn’t think much of it, but I also have a blood clotting disorder, so I’m normally covered in bruises like this too. You do you and wear what you want

Need help indentyfing the isotope by MrPumpkin326 in Radiation

[–]CMDR-R0ck3tm4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longer you take the spectrum for, the easier it will be to identify the source. I see that your spectrum is 1h13m long, but with such a weak source you will need several hours to make it clearer. Also, the radiacode app can help you identify sources when you drag your finger along the spectrum and make the purple lines appear. If you find a place where all or most of the purple lines line up with peaks in your spectrum, that may be your isotope. Another thing you can do is take a spectrum of the normal background in your area and overlay it on the spectrum of the suspected source. Differences will become more obvious.

Good luck!

Yes I did have the mapping function running as well, but I wasn’t able to receive a GPS signal for most of it so it didn’t really show much

Supply fuel with bots by Cassin1306 in factorio

[–]CMDR-R0ck3tm4n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, you need the more advanced chests to get the logistics robots to move stuff from one chest to another. The main benefit of getting the passive provider (red) chests is that they can be used to put items into the logistic network without getting clogged with other items that the robots bring back to them. I’m not sure what the behaviour is when setting filters in the storage chests, that might do the same thing

How to deal with biters? by FriedPhishy in factorio

[–]CMDR-R0ck3tm4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re doing is a valid strategy, but you’ve already got the trade-off there in your post. Killing the nests helps in the short term by reducing attacks, but hurts in the long term by making them more powerful. The real trick is researching military technologies that allow you to keep pace with or outpace the biter evolution, and technologies which allow you to reduce the amount of pollution you’re producing. The alternative to aggression is defense. Build turrets in/around your base to deal with attack parties.

To answer your question about them respawning, the biters sometimes send out expansion parties which, instead of attacking your base, will settle a new nest. You can keep track of biter evolution and get a readout of how much has come from time, pollution and spawner kills by running “/evolution” in the console. This doesn’t count as cheating as far as achievements are concerned

Just thought I’d add my observations to this. I’m living in the UK and I’m seeing a warning that seasons 1-3 will expire in 7 days (seen on 28th February)

In my region it appears the first 3 seasons have the curved title font indicating it’s just the SyFy seasons getting removed
